The Lord Answers Job

38 Then the Lord (A)answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

“Who is this that (B)darkens counsel by words (C)without knowledge?
(D)Dress for action[a] like a man;
    I will question you, and you make it known to me.

“Where were you when I (E)laid the foundation of the earth?
    Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
    Or who stretched the line upon it?
On what were its bases sunk,
    or who laid its cornerstone,
when the morning stars (F)sang together
    and all (G)the sons of God (H)shouted for joy?

“Or who (I)shut in the sea with doors
    when it burst out from the womb,
when I made clouds its garment
    and (J)thick darkness its swaddling band,
10 and prescribed (K)limits for it
    and set bars and doors,
11 and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther,
    and here shall your (L)proud waves be stayed’?

Job's Confession and Repentance

42 Then Job answered the Lord and said:

“I know that you can (A)do all things,
    and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
(B)‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’
Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,
    things (C)too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
‘Hear, and I will speak;
    (D)I will question you, and you make it known to me.’
I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
    but now my eye sees you;

And (A)the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” And from the throne came a voice saying,

(B)“Praise our God,
    all you his servants,
(C)you who fear him,
    small and great.”

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb

Then I heard what seemed to be (D)the voice of a great multitude, like (E)the roar of many waters and (F)like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,

“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
    the Almighty (G)reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult
    and give him the glory,
for (H)the marriage of the Lamb has come,
    and (I)his Bride has made herself ready;
(J)it was granted her to clothe herself
    with fine linen, bright and pure”—

for the fine linen is (K)the righteous deeds of the saints.

And the angel said[a] to me, “Write this: (L)Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, (M)“These are the true words of God.” 10 Then (N)I fell down at his feet to worship him, (O)but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to (P)the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

The Rider on a White Horse

11 Then I saw (Q)heaven opened, and behold, (R)a white horse! The one sitting on it is called (S)Faithful and True, and (T)in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 (U)His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are (V)many diadems, and he has (W)a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in (X)a robe dipped in[b] blood, and the name by which he is called is (Y)The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, (Z)arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, (AA)were following him on white horses. 15 (AB)From his mouth comes a sharp sword (AC)with which to strike down the nations, and (AD)he will rule[c] them with a rod of iron. (AE)He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh (AF)he has a name written, (AG)King of kings and Lord of lords.

Behold, the Lamb of God

29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, (A)the Lamb of God, who (B)takes away the sin (C)of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, (D)‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but (E)for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And John (F)bore witness: (G)“I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and (H)it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but (I)he who sent me to baptize (J)with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, (K)this is he who baptizes (L)with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son[a] of God.”
