    But O Hope of Israel, her Savior in times of trouble, don’t forget us!
        Why are You acting like a stranger here in Your own land,
    Treating us like some traveler who’s only staying for the night?
    Why do You seem surprised,
        like a warrior who cannot defend us?
    But we know You are here, among us even now.
        Eternal One—we are Your people.
    You know us by name;
        do not disown us!

Eternal One: 10 (about His people) All this is true, but they love to wander from Me; they cannot control their restless feet—which are constantly running after other gods. That is why I won’t accept them and take them back. I will remember their guilt and hold them accountable for their sins.

why are you like a stranger in the land,
    like a traveler who stays only a night?
Why are you like a man taken by surprise,
    like a warrior powerless to save?(D)
You are among(E) us, Lord,
    and we bear your name;(F)
    do not forsake(G) us!

10 This is what the Lord says about this people:

“They greatly love to wander;
    they do not restrain their feet.(H)
So the Lord does not accept(I) them;
    he will now remember(J) their wickedness
    and punish them for their sins.”(K)
