14 Then the Lord said to me, “(A)Out of the north the evil [a]will be unleashed on all the inhabitants of the land. 15 For, behold, I am calling (B)all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the Lord; “and they will come and (C)place, each one of them, his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls around, and against all the (D)cities of Judah. 16 And I will [b]pronounce My judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, since they have (E)abandoned Me and have [c](F)offered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the (G)works of their own hands. 17 Now, (H)belt your garment around your waist and arise, and speak to them all that I command you. (I)Do not be dismayed before them, or I will make you dismayed before them. 18 Now behold, I have made you today like a fortified city and like a pillar of iron and walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its leaders, to its priests, and to the people of the land. 19 And they will fight against you but they will not overcome you, for (J)I am with you to save you,” declares the Lord.

Judah’s Apostasy

Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Go and (K)proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, ‘This is what the Lord says:

“I remember regarding you the [d](L)devotion of your youth,
Your love when you were a bride,
(M)Your following after Me in the wilderness,
Through a land not sown.
Israel was (N)holy to the Lord,
The (O)first of His harvest.
(P)All who ate of it became guilty;
Evil came upon them,” declares the Lord.’”

14 The Lord said to me, “From the north(A) disaster will be poured out on all who live in the land. 15 I am about to summon all the peoples of the northern kingdoms,” declares the Lord.

“Their kings will come and set up their thrones
    in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem;
they will come against all her surrounding walls
    and against all the towns of Judah.(B)
16 I will pronounce my judgments(C) on my people
    because of their wickedness(D) in forsaking me,(E)
in burning incense to other gods(F)
    and in worshiping(G) what their hands have made.(H)

17 “Get yourself ready! Stand up and say(I) to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified(J) by them, or I will terrify you before them. 18 Today I have made you(K) a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. 19 They will fight against you but will not overcome(L) you, for I am with you(M) and will rescue(N) you,” declares the Lord.

Israel Forsakes God

The word(O) of the Lord came to me: “Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem:

“This is what the Lord says:

“‘I remember the devotion of your youth,(P)
    how as a bride you loved me
and followed me through the wilderness,(Q)
    through a land not sown.
Israel was holy(R) to the Lord,(S)
    the firstfruits(T) of his harvest;
all who devoured(U) her were held guilty,(V)
    and disaster overtook them,’”
declares the Lord.
