¹⁷ At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne^(A) of the Lord, and all nations^(B) will gather in Jerusalem to honor^(C) the name of the Lord. No longer will they follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts.^(D)

The Ark Brought to the Temple^(A)

8 Then King Solomon summoned into his presence at Jerusalem the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes and the chiefs^(B) of the Israelite families, to bring up the ark^(C) of the Lord’s covenant from Zion, the City of David.^(D)

⁷ Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion^(A)—which is the City of David.^(B)

⁸ On that day David had said, “Anyone who conquers the Jebusites will have to use the water shaft^(C) to reach those ‘lame and blind’^(D) who are David’s enemies.^[a]” That is why they say, “The ‘blind and lame’ will not enter the palace.”

⁹ David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces^[b](E) inward. ¹⁰ And he became more and more powerful,^(F) because the Lord God Almighty^(G) was with him.^(H)

²² But you have come to Mount Zion,^(A) to the city^(B) of the living God,^(C) the heavenly Jerusalem.^(D) You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, ²³ to the church of the firstborn,^(E) whose names are written in heaven.^(F) You have come to God, the Judge of all,^(G) to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,^(H)

⁶ While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from inside the temple. ⁷ He said: “Son of man, this is the place of my throne^(A) and the place for the soles of my feet. This is where I will live among the Israelites forever. The people of Israel will never again defile^(B) my holy name—neither they nor their kings—by their prostitution and the funeral offerings^[a] for their kings at their death.^[b](C)
