The Lord’s Devastation of the Earth

²⁷ “Then tell them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Drink, get drunk^(A) and vomit, and fall to rise no more because of the sword^(B) I will send among you.’ ²⁸ But if they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink^(C), tell them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: You must drink it! ²⁹ See, I am beginning to bring disaster^(D) on the city that bears my Name,^(E) and will you indeed go unpunished?^(F) You will not go unpunished, for I am calling down a sword^(G) on all^(H) who live on the earth,^(I) declares the Lord Almighty.’

³⁰ “Now prophesy all these words against them and say to them:

³² This is what the Lord Almighty says:

³³ At that time those slain^(W) by the Lord will be everywhere—from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned or gathered^(X) up or buried,^(Y) but will be like dung lying on the ground.

¹⁶ You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud^(A) that covers the land.^(B) In days to come, Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I am proved holy^(C) through you before their eyes.^(D)

¹⁷ “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: You are the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel. At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them. ¹⁸ This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign Lord. ¹⁹ In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake^(E) in the land of Israel.^{(F) 20} The fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble^(G) at my presence. The mountains will be overturned,^(H) the cliffs will crumble^(I) and every wall will fall to the ground.^{(J) 21} I will summon a sword^(K) against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign Lord. Every man’s sword will be against his brother.^{(L) 22} I will execute judgment^(M) on him with plague and bloodshed;^(N) I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones^(O) and burning sulfur^(P) on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him.^(Q)

²⁶ After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death^(A) and will have nothing.^[a] The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood:^(B) War will continue until the end, and desolations^(C) have been decreed.^(D)

Judgment and Covenant Renewal

4 ^[a]“Surely the day is coming;^(A) it will burn like a furnace.^(B) All the arrogant^(C) and every evildoer will be stubble,^(D) and the day that is coming will set them on fire,^(E)” says the Lord Almighty. “Not a root or a branch^(F) will be left to them.

²¹ For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.^(A)
