¹⁹ Then God’s temple^(E) in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant.^(F) And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder,^(G) an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.^(H)

²⁵ This very day I will begin to put the terror^(A) and fear^(B) of you on all the nations under heaven. They will hear reports of you and will tremble^(C) and be in anguish because of you.”

² David also defeated the Moabites.^(A) He made them lie down on the ground and measured them off with a length of cord. Every two lengths of them were put to death, and the third length was allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.^(B)

¹⁶ So David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army, all the way from Gibeon^(A) to Gezer.^(B)

¹⁷ So David’s fame^(C) spread throughout every land, and the Lord made all the nations fear^(D) him.

The Lord’s Devastation of the Earth

³² This is what the Lord Almighty says:

³³ At that time those slain^(J) by the Lord will be everywhere—from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned or gathered^(K) up or buried,^(L) but will be like dung lying on the ground.

² I will turn you around and drag you along. I will bring you from the far north^(A) and send you against the mountains of Israel.^{(B) 3} Then I will strike your bow^(C) from your left hand and make your arrows^(D) drop from your right hand. ⁴ On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds^(E) and to the wild animals.^(F)
