Isaiah 66:1-4
New King James Version
True Worship and False
66 Thus says the Lord:
(A)“Heaven is My throne,
And earth is My footstool.
Where is the house that you will build Me?
And where is the place of My rest?
2 For all those things My hand has made,
And all those things exist,”
Says the Lord.
(B)“But on this one will I look:
(C)On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit,
And who trembles at My word.
3 “He(D) who kills a bull is as if he slays a man;
He who sacrifices a lamb, as if he (E)breaks a dog’s neck;
He who offers a grain offering, as if he offers swine’s blood;
He who burns incense, as if he blesses an idol.
Just as they have chosen their own ways,
And their soul delights in their abominations,
4 So will I choose their delusions,
And bring their fears on them;
(F)Because, when I called, no one answered,
When I spoke they did not hear;
But they did evil before My eyes,
And chose that in which I do not delight.”
Isaiah 66:1-4

Judgment and Hope
66 This is what the Lord says:
“Heaven is my throne,(A)
and the earth is my footstool.(B)
Where is the house(C) you will build for me?
Where will my resting place be?
2 Has not my hand made all these things,(D)
and so they came into being?”
declares the Lord.
“These are the ones I look on with favor:
those who are humble and contrite in spirit,(E)
and who tremble at my word.(F)
3 But whoever sacrifices a bull(G)
is like one who kills a person,
and whoever offers a lamb
is like one who breaks a dog’s neck;
whoever makes a grain offering
is like one who presents pig’s(H) blood,
and whoever burns memorial incense(I)
is like one who worships an idol.
They have chosen their own ways,(J)
and they delight in their abominations;(K)
4 so I also will choose harsh treatment for them
and will bring on them what they dread.(L)
For when I called, no one answered,(M)
when I spoke, no one listened.
They did evil(N) in my sight
and chose what displeases me.”(O)
Jeremiah 31:31-34
New King James Version
A New Covenant
31 “Behold, the (A)days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that (B)I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, [a]though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. 33 (C)But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: (D)I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their [b]hearts; (E)and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for (F)they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For (G)I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

New International Version
31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when I will make a new covenant(A)
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant(B)
I made with their ancestors(C)
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,(D)
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband(E) to[a] them,[b]”
declares the Lord.
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds(F)
and write it on their hearts.(G)
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.(H)
34 No longer will they teach(I) their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know(J) me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive(K) their wickedness
and will remember their sins(L) no more.”

Romans 7:4-25
New King James Version
4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become (A)dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should (B)bear fruit to God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law (C)were at work in our members (D)to bear fruit to death. 6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve (E)in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
Sin’s Advantage in the Law
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, (F)I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, (G)“You shall not covet.” 8 But (H)sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For (I)apart from the law sin was dead. 9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. 10 And the commandment, (J)which was to bring life, I found to bring death. 11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. 12 Therefore (K)the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.
Law Cannot Save from Sin
13 Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful. 14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, (L)sold under sin. 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. (M)For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. 16 If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I know that (N)in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I (O)delight in the law of God according to (P)the inward man. 23 But (Q)I see another law in (R)my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me (S)from this body of death? 25 (T)I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

Romans 7:4-25
New International Version
4 So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law(A) through the body of Christ,(B) that you might belong to another,(C) to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 5 For when we were in the realm of the flesh,[a](D) the sinful passions aroused by the law(E) were at work in us,(F) so that we bore fruit for death.(G) 6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law(H) so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.(I)
The Law and Sin
7 What shall we say, then?(J) Is the law sinful? Certainly not!(K) Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law.(L) For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”[b](M) 8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment,(N) produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead.(O) 9 Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. 10 I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life(P) actually brought death. 11 For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment,(Q) deceived me,(R) and through the commandment put me to death. 12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.(S)
13 Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good(T) to bring about my death,(U) so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual,(V) sold(W) as a slave to sin.(X) 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.(Y) 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.(Z) 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.(AA) 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[c](AB) For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.(AC) 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.(AD)
21 So I find this law at work:(AE) Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being(AF) I delight in God’s law;(AG) 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war(AH) against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin(AI) at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?(AJ) 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!(AK)
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law,(AL) but in my sinful nature[d] a slave to the law of sin.(AM)
