19 So they will fear the name of the Lord from the (A)west
And His glory from the (B)rising of the sun,
For He will (C)come like a [a]rushing stream
Which the wind of the Lord drives.
20 “A (D)Redeemer will come to Zion,
And to those in Jacob who (E)turn from wrongdoing,” declares the Lord.

21 “As for Me, this is My (F)covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My (G)Spirit who is upon you, and My (H)words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your [b]offspring, nor from the mouth of your [c]offspring’s offspring,” says the Lord, “from now and forever.”

A Glorified Zion

60 (I)Arise, shine; for your (J)light has come,
And the (K)glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For behold, (L)darkness will cover the earth
And deep darkness the peoples;
But the Lord will rise upon you
And His (M)glory will appear upon you.
(N)Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.

(O)Raise your eyes all around and see;
They all gather together, they (P)come to you.
Your sons will come from afar,
And your (Q)daughters will be [d]carried on the hip.
Then you will see and be (R)radiant,
And your heart will [e]thrill and rejoice;
Because the [f](S)abundance of the sea will be turned to you,
The (T)wealth of the nations will come to you.
A multitude of camels will cover you,
The young camels of Midian and (U)Ephah;
All those from (V)Sheba will come;
They will bring (W)gold and frankincense,
And (X)proclaim good news of the praises of the Lord.
All the flocks of (Y)Kedar will be gathered to you,
The rams of Nebaioth will serve you;
They will go up on My (Z)altar with acceptance,
And I will (AA)glorify My glorious house.
(AB)Who are these who fly like a cloud
And like the doves to their windows?
Certainly the (AC)coastlands will wait for Me;
And the (AD)ships of Tarshish will come first,
To (AE)bring your sons from afar,
Their silver and their gold with them,
For the name of the Lord your God,
And for the Holy One of Israel because He has (AF)glorified you.

10 (AG)Foreigners will build up your walls,
And their (AH)kings will serve you;
For in My (AI)wrath I struck you,
And in My favor I have had compassion on you.
11 Your (AJ)gates will be open continually;
They will not be closed day or night,
So that people may (AK)bring you the wealth of the nations,
With (AL)their kings led in procession.
12 For the (AM)nation and the kingdom which will not serve you will perish,
And the nations will be utterly ruined.
13 The (AN)glory of Lebanon will come to you,
The (AO)juniper, the elm tree and the [g]cedar together,
To beautify the place of My sanctuary;
And I will make the (AP)place of My feet glorious.
14 The (AQ)sons of those who afflicted you will come bowing to you,
And all those who despised you will bow down at the soles of your feet;
And they will call you the (AR)city of the Lord,
The (AS)Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

15 “Whereas you have been (AT)forsaken and (AU)hated
With no one passing through,
I will make you an (AV)object of pride forever,
A joy from generation to generation.
16 You will also (AW)suck the milk of nations,
And suck the breast of kings;
Then you will know that I, the Lord, am your (AX)Savior
And your (AY)Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17 Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
And instead of iron I will bring silver,
And instead of wood, bronze,
And instead of stones, iron.
And I will make peace your administrators,
And righteousness your overseers.
18 (AZ)Violence will not be heard again in your land,
Nor (BA)devastation or destruction within your borders;
But you will call your (BB)walls salvation, and your (BC)gates praise.
19 No longer will you have the (BD)sun for light by day,
Nor will the moon give you light for brightness;
But you will have the (BE)Lord as an everlasting light,
And your (BF)God as your [h]glory.
20 Your (BG)sun will no longer set,
Nor will your moon wane;
For you will have the Lord as an everlasting light,
And the days of your (BH)mourning will be over.
21 Then all your (BI)people will be righteous;
They will (BJ)possess the land forever,
The branch of [i]My planting,
The (BK)work of My hands,
That I may be (BL)glorified.
22 The (BM)smallest one will become a thousand,
And the least one a mighty nation.
I, the Lord, will bring it about quickly in its time.”

Exaltation of the Afflicted

61 The (BN)Spirit of the Lord [j]God is upon me,
Because the Lord anointed me
To (BO)bring good news to the (BP)humble;
He has sent me to (BQ)bind up the brokenhearted,
To (BR)proclaim [k]release to captives
And [l]freedom to prisoners;
To (BS)proclaim the favorable year of the Lord
And the (BT)day of vengeance of our God;
To (BU)comfort all who mourn,
To (BV)grant those who mourn in Zion,
Giving them a garland instead of ashes,
The (BW)oil of gladness instead of mourning,
The cloak of praise instead of a disheartened spirit.
So they will be called [m](BX)oaks of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

Then they will (BY)rebuild the ancient ruins,
They will raise up the former devastations;
And they will repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.
(BZ)Strangers will stand and pasture your flocks,
And [n]foreigners will be your farmers and your vinedressers.
But you will be called the (CA)priests of the Lord;
You will be spoken of as (CB)ministers of our God.
You will eat the (CC)wealth of nations,
And you will boast in their [o]riches.
Instead of your (CD)shame you will have a (CE)double portion,
And instead of humiliation they will shout for joy over their portion.
Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land,
(CF)Everlasting joy will be theirs.
For I, the Lord, (CG)love justice,
I hate robbery [p]in the burnt offering;
And I will faithfully give them their reward,
And make an (CH)everlasting covenant with them.
Then their offspring will be known among the nations,
And their descendants in the midst of the peoples.
All who see them will recognize them
Because they are the (CI)offspring whom the Lord has blessed.

10 I will (CJ)rejoice greatly in the Lord,
My soul will be joyful in (CK)my God;
For He has (CL)clothed me with garments of salvation,
He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness,
As a groom puts on a turban,
And (CM)as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the (CN)earth produces its sprouts,
And as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up,
So the Lord [q]God will (CO)cause (CP)righteousness and praise
To spring up before all the nations.

Zion’s Glory and New Name

62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet,
Until her (CQ)righteousness goes forth like brightness,
And her (CR)salvation like a torch that is burning.
The (CS)nations will see your righteousness,
And all kings your glory;
And you will be called by a new (CT)name
Which the mouth of the Lord will designate.
You will also be a (CU)crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord,
And a royal headband in the hand of your God.
It will no longer be said to you, “[r](CV)Forsaken,”
Nor to your land will it any longer be said, “[s]Desolate”;
But you will be called, “[t]My delight is in her,”
And your land, “[u](CW)Married”;
For the (CX)Lord delights in you,
And to Him your land will be married.
For as a young man marries a virgin,
So your sons will marry you;
And as the [v]groom rejoices over the bride,
So your (CY)God will rejoice over you.

On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed (CZ)watchmen;
All day and all night they will never keep silent.
You who (DA)profess the Lord, take no rest for yourselves;
And (DB)give Him no rest until He establishes
And makes (DC)Jerusalem an object of praise on the earth.
(DD)The Lord has sworn by His right hand and by His mighty arm:
“I will (DE)never again give your grain as food for your enemies,
Nor will [w]foreigners drink your new wine for which you have labored.”
But those who (DF)harvest it will eat it and praise the Lord;
And those who gather it will drink it in the courtyards of My sanctuary.

10 Go through, (DG)go through the gates,
Clear a way [x]for the people!
(DH)Build up, build up the (DI)highway,
Remove the stones, lift up a (DJ)flag over the peoples.
11 Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the (DK)end of the earth:
(DL)Say to the daughter of Zion, “Behold, your (DM)salvation is coming;
(DN)Behold His reward is with Him, and His compensation before Him.”
12 And they will call them, “(DO)The holy people,
The (DP)redeemed of the Lord”;
And you will be called, “Sought Out, A City (DQ)Not Abandoned.”

The Glory of Zion

60 “Arise,(L) shine, for your light(M) has come,

See, darkness(O) covers the earth

    bearing gold and incense(AE)
    and proclaiming the praise(AF) of the Lord.
All Kedar’s(AG) flocks will be gathered to you,
    the rams of Nebaioth will serve you;
they will be accepted as offerings(AH) on my altar,(AI)
    and I will adorn my glorious temple.(AJ)

“Who are these(AK) that fly along like clouds,(AL)

Surely the islands(AM) look to me;
    in the lead are the ships of Tarshish,[b](AN)

Though in anger I struck you,
    in favor(AV) I will show you compassion.(AW)
11 Your gates(AX) will always stand open,

The Year of the Lord’s Favor

61 The Spirit(CM) of the Sovereign Lord(CN) is on me,
    because the Lord has anointed(CO) me
    to proclaim good news(CP) to the poor.(CQ)
He has sent me to bind up(CR) the brokenhearted,
    to proclaim freedom(CS) for the captives(CT)
    and release from darkness for the prisoners,[c]
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor(CU)
    and the day of vengeance(CV) of our God,
to comfort(CW) all who mourn,(CX)
    and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown(CY) of beauty
    instead of ashes,(CZ)
the oil(DA) of joy
    instead of mourning,(DB)
and a garment of praise
    instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting(DC) of the Lord
    for the display of his splendor.(DD)

They will rebuild the ancient ruins(DE)
    and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
    that have been devastated for generations.
Strangers(DF) will shepherd your flocks;
    foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
And you will be called priests(DG) of the Lord,
    you will be named ministers of our God.
You will feed on the wealth(DH) of nations,
    and in their riches you will boast.

Instead of your shame(DI)
    you will receive a double(DJ) portion,
and instead of disgrace
    you will rejoice in your inheritance.
And so you will inherit(DK) a double portion in your land,
    and everlasting joy(DL) will be yours.

“For I, the Lord, love justice;(DM)
    I hate robbery and wrongdoing.
In my faithfulness I will reward my people
    and make an everlasting covenant(DN) with them.
Their descendants(DO) will be known among the nations
    and their offspring among the peoples.
All who see them will acknowledge
    that they are a people the Lord has blessed.”(DP)

10 I delight greatly in the Lord;
    my soul rejoices(DQ) in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of salvation
    and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness,(DR)
as a bridegroom adorns his head(DS) like a priest,
    and as a bride(DT) adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up
    and a garden(DU) causes seeds to grow,
so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness(DV)
    and praise spring up before all nations.

Zion’s New Name

62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,(DW)
    for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet,
till her vindication(DX) shines out like the dawn,(DY)
    her salvation(DZ) like a blazing torch.
The nations(EA) will see your vindication,
    and all kings your glory;
you will be called by a new name(EB)
    that the mouth of the Lord will bestow.
You will be a crown(EC) of splendor in the Lord’s hand,
    a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
No longer will they call you Deserted,(ED)
    or name your land Desolate.(EE)
But you will be called Hephzibah,[d](EF)
    and your land Beulah[e];
for the Lord will take delight(EG) in you,
    and your land will be married.(EH)
As a young man marries a young woman,
    so will your Builder marry you;
as a bridegroom(EI) rejoices over his bride,
    so will your God rejoice(EJ) over you.

I have posted watchmen(EK) on your walls, Jerusalem;
    they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the Lord,
    give yourselves no rest,(EL)
and give him no rest(EM) till he establishes Jerusalem
    and makes her the praise(EN) of the earth.

The Lord has sworn(EO) by his right hand
    and by his mighty arm:
“Never again will I give your grain(EP)
    as food for your enemies,
and never again will foreigners drink the new wine
    for which you have toiled;
but those who harvest it will eat(EQ) it
    and praise the Lord,(ER)
and those who gather the grapes will drink it
    in the courts of my sanctuary.”(ES)

10 Pass through, pass through the gates!(ET)
    Prepare the way for the people.
Build up, build up the highway!(EU)
    Remove the stones.
Raise a banner(EV) for the nations.

11 The Lord has made proclamation
    to the ends of the earth:(EW)
“Say to Daughter Zion,(EX)
    ‘See, your Savior comes!(EY)
See, his reward is with him,
    and his recompense accompanies him.’”(EZ)
12 They will be called(FA) the Holy People,(FB)
    the Redeemed(FC) of the Lord;
and you will be called Sought After,
    the City No Longer Deserted.(FD)
