Isaiah 45:5-9

New American Standard Bible

⁵I am the Lord, and ^(A)there is no one else;
^(B)There is no God except Me.
I will ^(C)^[a]arm you, though you have not known Me,
⁶So that ^(D)people may know from the rising to the setting of the sun
That there is ^(E)no one besides Me.
I am the Lord, and there is no one else,
⁷The One ^(F)forming light and ^(G)creating darkness,
Causing ^[b]well-being and ^(H)creating disaster;
I am the Lord who does all these things.

God’s Supreme Power

⁸“^(I)Drip down, heavens, from above,
And let the clouds pour down righteousness;
Let the ^(J)earth open up and salvation bear fruit,
^(K)And righteousness sprout with it.
I, the Lord, have created it.

⁹“Woe to the one who ^(L)quarrels with ^[c]his Maker—
A piece of pottery ^[d]among the other earthenware pottery pieces!
Will the ^(M)clay say to the ^[e]potter, ‘What are you doing?’
Or the thing you are making say, ‘He has no hands’?

For I am God, and there is ^(E)no other;
I am God, and there is ^(F)no one like Me,
¹⁰Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things which have not been done,
Saying, ‘^(G)My plan will be established,
And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’;
¹¹Calling a ^(H)bird of prey from the ^(I)east,
The man of ^[c]My purpose from a distant country.
Truly I have ^(J)spoken; truly I will bring it to pass.
I have planned it, I will certainly do it.

¹⁸^[a]O king, the ^(A)Most High God ^(B)granted ^[b]sovereignty, ^(C)greatness, honor, and majesty to Nebuchadnezzar your father. ¹⁹Now because of the greatness which He granted him, all the peoples, nations, and populations of all ^[c]languages trembled and feared in his presence; ^(D)whomever he wished, he killed, and whomever he wished, he spared alive; and whomever he wished he elevated, and whomever he wished he humbled. ²⁰But when his heart ^[d]was ^(E)arrogant and his spirit became so ^[e]^(F)overbearing that he behaved presumptuously, he was ^(G)deposed from his royal throne, and his dignity was taken away from him. ²¹He was also ^(H)driven away from ^[f]mankind, and his heart was made like that of animals, and his dwelling place was with the ^(I)wild donkeys. He was given grass to eat like cattle, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he recognized that the ^(J)Most High God is ruler over the realm of mankind, and that He sets over it whomever He wishes.
