A Remnant Prepared

For seven women will take hold of (A)one man on that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; (B)take away our disgrace!”

On that day the (C)Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the (D)fruit of the earth will be the pride and the beauty of the (E)survivors of Israel. And it will come about that the one who is (F)left in Zion and remains behind in Jerusalem will be called (G)holy—everyone who is (H)recorded for life in Jerusalem. When the Lord has washed away the filth of the (I)daughters of Zion and [a]purged the (J)bloodshed of Jerusalem from her midst, by the (K)spirit of judgment and the (L)spirit of [b]burning, then the Lord will create over the entire area of Mount Zion and over her assemblies (M)a cloud by day, and smoke, and the brightness of a flaming fire by night; for over all the (N)glory will be a canopy. And there will be a (O)shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and [c]protection from the storm and the rain.

Parable of the Vineyard

Let me sing now for my beloved
A song of my beloved about His vineyard.
My beloved had a (P)vineyard on [d]a fertile hill.
He dug it all around, cleared it of stones,
And planted it with [e]the (Q)choicest vine.
And He built a tower in the middle of it,
And also carved out a [f]wine vat in it;
Then He (R)expected it to produce good grapes,
But it produced only [g]worthless ones.

“And now, you inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah,
(S)Judge between Me and My vineyard.
(T)What more was there to do for My vineyard [h]that I have not done in it?
Why, when I expected it to produce good grapes did it produce [i]worthless ones?
So now let Me tell you what I am going to do to My vineyard:
I will (U)remove its hedge and it will be consumed;
I will (V)break down its wall and it will become (W)trampled ground.
I will (X)lay it waste;
It will not be pruned nor hoed,
But briars and thorns will come up.
I will also command the clouds not to (Y)rain on it.”

For the (Z)vineyard of the Lord of armies is the house of Israel,
And the people of Judah are His delightful plant.
So He waited for justice, but behold, there was (AA)bloodshed;
For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help.

Woes for the Wicked

Woe to those who (AB)attach house to house and join field to field,
Until there is no more room,
And you alone are a landowner in the midst of the land!
In my ears the Lord of armies has sworn, “(AC)Many houses shall certainly become (AD)desolate,
Even great and fine ones, without occupants.
10 For (AE)ten acres of vineyard will yield only one [j]bath of wine,
And a [k](AF)homer of seed will yield only an [l]ephah of grain.”
11 Woe to those who rise early in the morning so that they may pursue (AG)intoxicating drink,
Who stay up late in the evening so that wine may inflame them!
12 Their banquets are accompanied by lyre and (AH)harp, by tambourine and flute, and by wine;
But they (AI)do not pay attention to the deeds of the Lord,
Nor do they consider the work of His hands.

13 Therefore My people go into exile for their (AJ)lack of knowledge;
And their [m](AK)nobles are famished,
And their multitude is parched with thirst.
14 Therefore (AL)Sheol has enlarged its [n]throat and opened its mouth beyond measure;
And [o]Jerusalem’s splendor, her multitude, her noise of revelry, and the jubilant within her, descend into it.
15 So the common people will be humbled and the person of importance brought low,
(AM)The eyes of the haughty also will be brought low.
16 But the (AN)Lord of armies will be (AO)exalted in judgment,
And the holy God will show Himself (AP)holy in righteousness.
17 (AQ)Then the lambs will graze as in their pasture,
And strangers will eat in the ruins of the [p]wealthy.

18 Woe to those who drag (AR)wrongdoing with the cords of [q]deceit,
And sin as if with cart ropes;
19 (AS)Who say, “Let Him hurry, let Him do His work quickly, so that we may see it;
And let the plan of the Holy One of Israel approach
And come to pass, so that we may know it!”
20 Woe to those who (AT)call evil good, and good evil;
Who [r](AU)substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;
Who [s]substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
21 Woe to those who are (AV)wise in their own eyes
And [t]clever in their own sight!
22 (AW)Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine,
And valiant men in mixing intoxicating drink,
23 (AX)Who declare the wicked innocent for a bribe,
And (AY)take away the [u]rights of the ones who are in the right!

24 Therefore, (AZ)as a tongue of fire consumes stubble,
And dry grass collapses in the flame,
So their (BA)root will become (BB)like rot, and their blossom [v]blow away like dust;
For they have (BC)rejected the Law of the Lord of armies,
And discarded the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25 For this reason the (BD)anger of the Lord has burned against His people,
And He has stretched out His hand against them and struck them.
And the (BE)mountains quaked, and their (BF)corpses [w]lay like refuse in the middle of the streets.
(BG)Despite all this, His anger [x]is not spent,
But His (BH)hand is still stretched out.

26 He will also lift up a (BI)flag to the distant [y]nation,
And (BJ)whistle for it (BK)from the ends of the earth;
And behold, it will (BL)come with speed swiftly.
27 (BM)No one in it is tired or stumbles,
No one slumbers or sleeps;
Nor is the (BN)undergarment at his waist loosened,
Nor his sandal strap broken.
28 [z](BO)Its arrows are sharp and all its bows are bent;
The hoofs of its horses [aa]seem like flint, and its chariot (BP)wheels like a storm wind.
29 Its (BQ)roaring is like a lioness, and it roars like young lions;
It growls as it (BR)seizes the prey
And carries it off with (BS)no one to save it.
30 And it will (BT)roar against it on that day like the roaring of the sea.
If one (BU)looks across to the land, behold, there is darkness and distress;
Even the light is darkened by its clouds.

Heathen Idols Contrasted with the Lord.

115 (A)Not to us, Lord, not to us,
But (B)to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy, because of Your [a]truth.
(C)Why should the nations say,
(D)Where, then, is their God?”
But our (E)God is in the heavens;
He (F)does whatever He pleases.
Their (G)idols are silver and gold,
The (H)work of human hands.
They have mouths, but they (I)cannot speak;
They have eyes, but they cannot see;
They have ears, but they cannot hear;
They have noses, but they cannot smell;
[b]They have hands, but they cannot feel;
[c]They have feet, but they cannot walk;
They cannot make a sound with their throat.
(J)Those who make them [d]will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.

(K)Israel, (L)trust in the Lord;
He is their (M)help and their shield.
10 House of (N)Aaron, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who [e](O)fear the Lord, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord (P)has been mindful of us; He will bless us.
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will (Q)bless those who [f]fear the Lord,
(R)The small together with the great.
14 May the Lord (S)increase you,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of the Lord,
(T)Maker of heaven and earth.

16 The heavens are (U)the heavens of the Lord,
But (V)the earth He has given to the sons of mankind.
17 The (W)dead do not praise [g]the Lord,
Nor do any who go down into (X)silence;
18 But as for us, we will (Y)bless [h]the Lord
From this time and forever.
[i]Praise [j]the Lord!

Thanksgiving for Rescue from Death.

116 (Z)I love the Lord, because He (AA)hears
My voice and my pleas.
Because He has (AB)inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
The (AC)snares of death encompassed me
And the [k]terrors of [l]Sheol [m]came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
Then (AD)I called upon the name of the Lord:
“Please, Lord, (AE)save my [n]life!”

(AF)Gracious is the Lord, and (AG)righteous;
Yes, our God is (AH)compassionate.
The Lord watches over (AI)the simple;
I was (AJ)brought low, and He saved me.
Return to your (AK)rest, my soul,
For the Lord has (AL)dealt generously with you.
For You have (AM)rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from stumbling.
I shall walk before the Lord
In the [o](AN)land of the living.
10 I (AO)believed when I said,
“I am (AP)greatly afflicted.”
11 I (AQ)said in my alarm,
(AR)All people are liars.”

12 What shall I (AS)repay to the Lord
For all His (AT)benefits [p]to me?
13 I will lift up the (AU)cup of salvation,
And (AV)call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I will (AW)pay my vows to the Lord;
May it be (AX)in the presence of all His people!
15 (AY)Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His godly ones.
16 O Lord, [q]I surely am (AZ)Your slave,
I am Your slave, the (BA)son of Your female slave,
You have (BB)unfastened my restraints.
17 I will offer You (BC)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (BD)call upon the name of the Lord.
18 I will (BE)pay my vows to the Lord,
May it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (BF)courtyards of the Lords house,
In the midst of you, (BG)Jerusalem!
[r]Praise [s]the Lord!

The Warnings of History to the Ungodly

[a](A)Jude, a (B)bond-servant of Jesus Christ and brother of [b]James,

To (C)those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and (D)kept for Jesus Christ: (E)May mercy, peace, and love (F)be multiplied to you.

(G)Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our (H)common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you (I)contend earnestly for (J)the faith that was once for all time (K)handed down to (L)the [c]saints. For certain people have (M)crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand [d](N)marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn (O)the grace of our God into (P)indecent behavior and (Q)deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Now I want to (R)remind you, though (S)you know everything once and for all, that [e]the Lord, (T)after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, [f]subsequently destroyed those who did not believe. And (U)angels who did not keep their own domain but abandoned their proper dwelling place, these He has (V)kept in eternal restraints under darkness for the judgment of the great day, just as (W)Sodom and Gomorrah and the (X)cities around them, since they in the same way as these angels indulged in sexual perversion and (Y)went after [g]strange flesh, are exhibited as an [h](Z)example in undergoing the (AA)punishment of eternal fire.

Yet in the same way these people also, dreaming, (AB)defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak abusively of angelic [i]majesties. But (AC)Michael (AD)the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about (AE)the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him an abusive judgment, but said, “(AF)The Lord rebuke you!” 10 But (AG)these people disparage all the things that they do not understand; and (AH)all the things that they know by instinct, (AI)like unreasoning animals, by these things they are destroyed. 11 Woe to them! For they have gone (AJ)the way of Cain, and for pay [j]they have given themselves up to (AK)the error of Balaam, and (AL)perished in the rebellion of Korah. 12 These are the ones who are [k]hidden reefs (AM)in your love feasts when they feast with you (AN)without fear, like shepherds caring only for themselves; (AO)clouds without water, (AP)carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, [l]doubly dead, (AQ)uprooted; 13 (AR)wild waves of the sea, churning up (AS)their own shameful deeds like dirty foam; wandering stars, (AT)for whom the [m]gloom of darkness has been reserved forever.

14 It was also about these people that (AU)Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “(AV)Behold, the Lord has come with [n]many thousands of His holy ones, 15 (AW)to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which (AX)ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” 16 These are (AY)grumblers, finding fault, (AZ)following after their own lusts; [o]they speak (BA)arrogantly, flattering people (BB)for the sake of gaining an advantage.

Keep Yourselves in the Love of God

17 But you, (BC)beloved, (BD)ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by (BE)the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, 18 that they were saying to you, “(BF)In the last time there will be mockers, (BG)following after their own ungodly lusts.” 19 These are the ones who cause divisions, [p](BH)worldly-minded, [q]devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, (BI)beloved, (BJ)building yourselves up on your most holy (BK)faith, (BL)praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, (BM)looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on some, who are doubting; 23 save others, (BN)snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, (BO)hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.

24 (BP)Now to Him who is able to protect you from stumbling, and to (BQ)make you stand in the presence of His glory, blameless with (BR)great joy, 25 to the (BS)only (BT)God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, (BU)be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority (BV)before all time and now and [r]forever. Amen.
