The Day of the Lord

Now as to the (A)periods and [a]times, brothers and sisters, you (B)have no need of anything to be written to you. We are not of night nor of (K)darkness; so then, let’s not (L)sleep as [d](M)others do, but let’s be alert and [e](N)sober. The Day of the Lord

Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates(A) we do not need to write to you,(B) for you know very well that the day of the Lord(C) will come like a thief in the night.(D) While people are saying, “Peace and safety,”(E) destruction will come on them suddenly,(F) as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.(G)

The Man of Lawlessness

Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ(A) and our being gathered to him,(B) we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter(C)—asserting that the day of the Lord(D) has already come.(E) Don’t let anyone deceive you(F) in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion(G) occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed,(H) the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God(I) or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.(J)

The Coming of Christ

11 And I saw (I)heaven opened, and behold, a (J)white horse, and He who sat on it is called (K)Faithful and True, and in (L)righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His (M)eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many (N)crowns; and He has a (O)name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a (P)robe dipped in blood, and His name is called (Q)The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in (R)fine linen, (S)white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 (T)From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that (U)with it He may strike down the nations, and He will [b](V)rule them with a rod of iron; and (W)He treads the [c]wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has (X)a name written: “(Y)KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

17 Then I saw [d]an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to (Z)all the birds that fly in (AA)midheaven, “(AB)Come, assemble for the great feast of God, 18 so that you may (AC)eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, (AD)both free and slaves, and (AE)small and great.”

19 And I saw (AF)the beast and (AG)the kings of the earth and their armies, assembled to make war against Him who (AH)sat on the horse, and against His army.

Doom of the Beast and False Prophet

20 And the beast was seized, and with him the (AI)false prophet who (AJ)performed the signs [e](AK)in his presence, by which he (AL)deceived those who had received the (AM)mark of the beast and those who (AN)worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the (AO)lake of (AP)fire, which burns with [f]brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which (AQ)came from the mouth of Him who (AR)sat on the horse, and (AS)all the birds were filled with their flesh.

Satan Bound

20 Then I saw (AT)an angel coming down from heaven, holding the (AU)key of the abyss and a great chain [g]in his hand. And he took hold of the (AV)dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and (AW)bound him for a thousand years; and he threw him into the (AX)abyss and shut it and (AY)sealed it over him, so that he would (AZ)not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.

Then I saw (BA)thrones, and (BB)they sat on them, and (BC)judgment was given to them. And I saw (BD)the souls of those who had been beheaded because of [h]their (BE)testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not (BF)worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the (BG)mark on their foreheads and on their hands; and they (BH)came to life and (BI)reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. (BJ)This is the first resurrection. (BK)Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the (BL)second death has no power, but they will be (BM)priests of God and of Christ, and will (BN)reign with Him for a thousand years.

Satan Freed and Doomed

When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be (BO)released from his prison, and will come out to (BP)deceive the nations which are at the (BQ)four corners of the earth, (BR)Gog and Magog, to (BS)gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the (BT)sand of the [i]seashore. And they (BU)came up on the [j]broad plain of the earth and surrounded the (BV)camp of the [k]saints and the (BW)beloved city, and (BX)fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10 And (BY)the devil who (BZ)deceived them was thrown into the (CA)lake of fire and [l]brimstone, where the (CB)beast and the (CC)false prophet are also; and they will be (CD)tormented day and night forever and ever.

Judgment at the Throne of God

11 Then I saw a great white (CE)throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose [m]presence (CF)earth and heaven fled, and (CG)no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the (CH)great and the small, standing before the throne, and [n](CI)books were opened; and another [o]book was opened, which is (CJ)the book of life; and the dead (CK)were judged from the things which were written in the [p]books, (CL)according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and (CM)Death and Hades (CN)gave up the dead who were in them; and they were judged, each one of them (CO)according to their deeds. 14 Then (CP)Death and Hades were thrown into (CQ)the lake of fire. This is the (CR)second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if [q]anyone’s name was not found written in (CS)the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

The New Heaven and Earth

21 Then I saw (CT)a new heaven and a new earth; for (CU)the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw (CV)the holy city, (CW)new Jerusalem, (CX)coming down out of heaven from God, (CY)prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, (CZ)the tabernacle of God is among the people, and He will (DA)dwell among them, and they shall be His [r]people, and God Himself will be among them[s], and He will (DB)wipe away every tear from their eyes; and (DC)there will no longer be any death; (DD)there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; (DE)the first things have passed away.”

And (DF)He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am (DG)making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for (DH)these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “[t](DI)It is done. I am the (DJ)Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. (DK)I will give water to the one who thirsts from the spring of the (DL)water of life, without cost. (DM)The one who overcomes will inherit these things, and (DN)I will be his God and he will be My son. king of kings and lord of lords.(Y)

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds(Z) flying in midair,(AA) “Come,(AB) gather together for the great supper of God,(AC) 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people,(AD) free and slave,(AE) great and small.”(AF)

19 Then I saw the beast(AG) and the kings of the earth(AH) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse(AI) and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet(AJ) who had performed the signs(AK) on its behalf.(AL) With these signs he had deluded(AM) those who had received the mark of the beast(AN) and worshiped its image.(AO) The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake(AP) of burning sulfur.(AQ) 21 The rest were killed with the sword(AR) coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse,(AS) and all the birds(AT) gorged themselves on their flesh.

The Thousand Years

20 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven,(AU) having the key(AV) to the Abyss(AW) and holding in his hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan,(AX) and bound him for a thousand years.(AY) He threw him into the Abyss,(AZ) and locked and sealed(BA) it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations(BB) anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

I saw thrones(BC) on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge.(BD) And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded(BE) because of their testimony about Jesus(BF) and because of the word of God.(BG) They[b] had not worshiped the beast(BH) or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands.(BI) They came to life and reigned(BJ) with Christ a thousand years. The Judgment of Satan

When the thousand years are over,(BP) Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations(BQ) in the four corners of the earth(BR)—Gog and Magog(BS)—and to gather them for battle.(BT) In number they are like the sand on the seashore.(BU) They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded(BV) the camp of God’s people, the city he loves.(BW) But fire came down from heaven(BX) and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them,(BY) was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,(BZ) where the beast(CA) and the false prophet(CB) had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.(CC)

The Judgment of the Dead

11 Then I saw a great white throne(CD) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,(CE) and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small,(CF) standing before the throne, and books were opened.(CG) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.(CH) The dead were judged(CI) according to what they had done(CJ) as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades(CK) gave up the dead(CL) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.(CM) 14 Then death(CN) and Hades(CO) were thrown into the lake of fire.(CP) The lake of fire is the second death.(CQ) 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life(CR) was thrown into the lake of fire.

God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.(CX) They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.(CY) ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes.(CZ) There will be no more death’[d](DA) or mourning or crying or pain,(DB) for the old order of things has passed away.”(DC)

He who was seated on the throne(DD) said, “I am making everything new!”(DE) Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”(DF)

He said to me: “It is done.(DG) I am the Alpha and the Omega,(DH) the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost(DI) from the spring of the water of life.(DJ) Those who are victorious(DK) will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.(DL) But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars(DM)—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur.(DN) This is the second death.”(DO)
