¹² Ah! The roar of many peoples—
they roar like the roaring of the seas.
The raging of the nations—
they rage like the rumble of rushing water.^(A)

Babylon’s thick walls will be totally demolished,^(A)
and her high gates set ablaze.
The peoples will have labored for nothing;^(B)
the nations will weary themselves only to feed the fire.

⁸ Since you have plundered many nations,^(A)
all the peoples who remain will plunder you^(B)—
because of human bloodshed
and violence^(C) against lands, cities,
and all who live in them.^(D)

You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slaughtered,
and you purchased^[a] people^[b]
for God by your blood
from every tribe and language
and people and nation.^(B)
