Songs of Praise

12 In that day^(A) you will say:

“I will praise^(B) you, Lord.
    Although you were angry with me,
your anger has turned away^(C)
    and you have comforted^(D) me.
²Surely God is my salvation;^(E)
    I will trust^(F) and not be afraid.
The Lord, the Lord himself,^(G) is my strength^(H) and my defense^[a];
    he has become my salvation.^(I)”
³With joy you will draw water^(J)
    from the wells^(K) of salvation.

⁴In that day^(L) you will say:

“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;^(M)
    make known among the nations^(N) what he has done,
    and proclaim that his name is exalted.^(O)
⁵Sing^(P) to the Lord, for he has done glorious things;^(Q)
    let this be known to all the world.
⁶Shout aloud and sing for joy,^(R) people of Zion,
    for great^(S) is the Holy One of Israel^(T) among you.^(U)”

Sin, Confession and Redemption

59 Surely the arm^(A) of the Lord is not too short^(B) to save,
    nor his ear too dull to hear.^(C)
²But your iniquities have separated^(D)
    you from your God;
your sins have hidden his face from you,
    so that he will not hear.^(E)
³For your hands are stained with blood,^(F)
    your fingers with guilt.^(G)
Your lips have spoken falsely,^(H)
    and your tongue mutters wicked things.
⁴No one calls for justice;^(I)
    no one pleads a case with integrity.
They rely^(J) on empty arguments, they utter lies;^(K)
    they conceive trouble and give birth to evil.^(L)
⁵They hatch the eggs of vipers^(M)
    and spin a spider’s web.^(N)
Whoever eats their eggs will die,
    and when one is broken, an adder is hatched.
⁶Their cobwebs are useless for clothing;
    they cannot cover themselves with what they make.^(O)
Their deeds are evil deeds,
    and acts of violence^(P) are in their hands.
⁷Their feet rush into sin;
    they are swift to shed innocent blood.^(Q)
They pursue evil schemes;^(R)
    acts of violence mark their ways.^(S)
⁸The way of peace they do not know;^(T)
    there is no justice in their paths.
They have turned them into crooked roads;^(U)
    no one who walks along them will know peace.^(V)

⁹So justice is far from us,
    and righteousness does not reach us.
We look for light, but all is darkness;^(W)
    for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows.
¹⁰Like the blind^(X) we grope along the wall,
    feeling our way like people without eyes.
At midday we stumble^(Y) as if it were twilight;
    among the strong, we are like the dead.^(Z)
¹¹We all growl like bears;
    we moan mournfully like doves.^(AA)
We look for justice, but find none;
    for deliverance, but it is far away.

¹²For our offenses^(AB) are many in your sight,
    and our sins testify^(AC) against us.
Our offenses are ever with us,
    and we acknowledge our iniquities:^(AD)
¹³rebellion^(AE) and treachery against the Lord,
    turning our backs^(AF) on our God,
inciting revolt and oppression,^(AG)
    uttering lies^(AH) our hearts have conceived.
¹⁴So justice^(AI) is driven back,
    and righteousness^(AJ) stands at a distance;
truth^(AK) has stumbled in the streets,
    honesty cannot enter.
¹⁵Truth^(AL) is nowhere to be found,
    and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey.

The Lord looked and was displeased
that there was no justice.^(AM)

2 Thessalonians 1:3-12

Thanksgiving and Prayer

³We ought always to thank God for you,^(A) brothers and sisters,^[a] and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.^(B) ⁴Therefore, among God’s churches we boast^(C) about your perseverance and faith^(D) in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.^(E)

⁵All this is evidence^(F) that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy^(G) of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. ⁶God is just:^(H) He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you^(I) ⁷and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven^(J) in blazing fire^(K) with his powerful angels.^(L) ⁸He will punish^(M) those who do not know God^(N) and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.^(O) ⁹They will be punished with everlasting destruction^(P) and shut out from the presence of the Lord^(Q) and from the glory of his might^(R) ¹⁰on the day^(S) he comes to be glorified^(T) in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.^(U)

¹¹With this in mind, we constantly pray for you,^(V) that our God may make you worthy^(W) of his calling,^(X) and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness^(Y) and your every deed prompted by faith.^(Z) ¹²We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you,^(AA) and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.^[b]
