¹⁴ In them is fulfilled^(A) the prophecy of Isaiah:

¹¹ He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God^(A) has been given to you. But to those on the outside^(B) everything is said in parables ¹² so that,

¹⁰ He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you,^(A) but to others I speak in parables, so that,

³⁷ Even after Jesus had performed so many signs^(A) in their presence, they still would not believe in him. ³⁸ This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet:

³⁹ For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:

²¹ For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.^{(A) 22} Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools^{(B) 23} and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images^(C) made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

¹¹ Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.^(A)

²³ They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God,^(A) and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets^(B) he tried to persuade them about Jesus.^{(C) 24} Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe.^{(D) 25} They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said^(E) through Isaiah the prophet:

²⁸ “Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation^(H) has been sent to the Gentiles,^(I) and they will listen!”
