²¹ “As for me, this is my covenant^(A) with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit,^(B) who is on you, will not depart from you,^(C) and my words that I have put in your mouth^(D) will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

²⁶ “When the Advocate^(A) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father^(B)—the Spirit of truth^(C) who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.^{(D) 27} And you also must testify,^(E) for you have been with me from the beginning.^(F)

⁸ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;^(A) and you will be my witnesses^(B) in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,^(C) and to the ends of the earth.”^(D)

¹⁶ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit^(A) that we are God’s children.^(B)

¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed^(A) and is useful for teaching,^(B) rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,^{(C) 17} so that the servant of God^[a](D) may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.^(E)

¹⁵ The Holy Spirit also testifies^(A) to us about this. First he says:

¹⁷ Then he adds:

⁶ This is the one who came by water and blood^(A)—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.^(B)
