Isaiah 4:2-5:7
English Standard Version
The Branch of the Lord Glorified
2 In that day (A)the branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious, and (B)the fruit of the land shall be the pride and honor of the survivors of Israel. 3 (C)And he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called (D)holy, everyone who has (E)been recorded for life in Jerusalem, 4 when (F)the Lord shall have washed away the filth of (G)the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by (H)a spirit of burning.[a] 5 Then the Lord will create over the whole site of Mount Zion and over her assemblies (I)a cloud by day, and smoke and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory there will be (J)a canopy. 6 (K)There will be a (L)booth for shade by day from the heat, and (M)for a refuge and a shelter from the storm and rain.
The Vineyard of the Lord Destroyed
5 Let me sing for my beloved
my love song concerning his vineyard:
My beloved had (N)a vineyard
on a very fertile hill.
2 He dug it and cleared it of stones,
and planted it with (O)choice vines;
he built a watchtower in the midst of it,
and hewed out a wine vat in it;
and (P)he looked for it to yield grapes,
but it yielded wild grapes.
3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem
and men of Judah,
judge between me and my vineyard.
4 (Q)What more was there to do for my vineyard,
that I have not done in it?
(R)When I looked for it to yield grapes,
why did it yield wild grapes?
5 And now I will tell you
what I will do to my vineyard.
I will remove (S)its hedge,
and it shall be devoured;[b]
(T)I will break down its wall,
and it shall be trampled down.
6 I will make it a waste;
it shall not be pruned or hoed,
and (U)briers and thorns shall grow up;
(V)I will also command the clouds
that they rain no rain upon it.
7 (W)For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts
is the house of Israel,
and the men of Judah
are his pleasant planting;
and he looked for justice,
but behold, bloodshed;[c]
for righteousness,
but behold, an outcry![d]
