Hosea 5:15-6:11
New International Version
15 Then I will return to my lair(A)
until they have borne their guilt(B)
and seek my face(C)—
in their misery(D)
they will earnestly seek me.(E)”
Israel Unrepentant
6 “Come, let us return(F) to the Lord.
He has torn us to pieces(G)
but he will heal us;(H)
he has injured us
but he will bind up our wounds.(I)
2 After two days he will revive us;(J)
on the third day(K) he will restore(L) us,
that we may live in his presence.
3 Let us acknowledge the Lord;
let us press on to acknowledge him.
As surely as the sun rises,
he will appear;
he will come to us like the winter rains,(M)
like the spring rains that water the earth.(N)”
4 “What can I do with you, Ephraim?(O)
What can I do with you, Judah?
Your love is like the morning mist,
like the early dew that disappears.(P)
5 Therefore I cut you in pieces with my prophets,
I killed you with the words of my mouth(Q)—
then my judgments go forth like the sun.[a](R)
6 For I desire mercy, not sacrifice,(S)
and acknowledgment(T) of God rather than burnt offerings.(U)
7 As at Adam,[b] they have broken the covenant;(V)
they were unfaithful(W) to me there.
8 Gilead is a city of evildoers,(X)
stained with footprints of blood.
9 As marauders lie in ambush for a victim,(Y)
so do bands of priests;
they murder(Z) on the road to Shechem,
carrying out their wicked schemes.(AA)
10 I have seen a horrible(AB) thing in Israel:
There Ephraim is given to prostitution,
Israel is defiled.(AC)
11 “Also for you, Judah,
a harvest(AD) is appointed.
“Whenever I would restore the fortunes(AE) of my people,

Until they [a](A)acknowledge their guilt and seek My face;
In their distress they will (B)search for Me.
The Response to God’s Rebuke
6 “(C)Come, let’s return to the Lord.
For (D)He has torn us, but (E)He will heal us;
He has [b]wounded us, but He will (F)bandage us.
2 He will (G)revive us after two days;
He will (H)raise us up on the third day,
That we may live before Him.
3 So let’s (I)learn, let’s press on to know the Lord.
His (J)appearance is as sure as the dawn;
And He will come to us like the (K)rain,
As the spring rain waters the earth.”
4 What shall I do with you, (L)Ephraim?
What shall I do with you, Judah?
For your loyalty is like a (M)morning cloud,
And like the dew which goes away early.
5 Therefore I have (N)cut them in pieces by the prophets;
I have slain them by the (O)words of My mouth;
And the judgments on you are like the light that [c]shines.
6 For (P)I [d]desire loyalty (Q)rather than sacrifice,
And the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
7 But (R)like [e]Adam they have (S)violated the covenant;
There they have (T)dealt treacherously with Me.
8 (U)Gilead is a city of wrongdoers,
Tracked with (V)bloody footprints.
9 And as a (W)band of robbers lie in wait for a person,
So a band of priests (X)murder on the way to Shechem;
Certainly they have committed an act of (Y)infamy.
10 In the house of Israel I have seen a (Z)horrible thing;
Ephraim’s (AA)infidelity is there, Israel has defiled itself.
11 Also, Judah, there is a (AB)harvest appointed for you,
When I (AC)restore the fortunes of My people.

King James Version
15 I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.
6 Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.
4 O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.
5 Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.
6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
7 But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.
8 Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood.
9 And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness.
10 I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled.
11 Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of my people.
