Pablo en la isla de Malta

28 Estando ya a salvo, supimos que la isla se llamaba Malta. 2 Y los naturales nos trataron con no poca humanidad; porque encendiendo un fuego, nos recibieron a todos, a causa de la lluvia que caía, y del frío. 3 Entonces, habiendo recogido Pablo algunas ramas secas, las echó al fuego; y una víbora, huyendo del calor, se le prendió en la mano. 4 Cuando los naturales vieron la víbora colgando de su mano, se decían unos a otros: Ciertamente este hombre es homicida, a quien, escapado del mar, la justicia no deja vivir. 5 Pero él, sacudiendo la víbora en el fuego, ningún daño padeció. 6 Ellos estaban esperando que él se hinchase, o cayese muerto de repente; mas habiendo esperado mucho, y viendo que ningún mal le venía, cambiaron de parecer y dijeron que era un dios.

7 En aquellos lugares había propiedades del hombre principal de la isla, llamado Publio, quien nos recibió y hospedó solícitamente tres días. 8 Y aconteció que el padre de Publio estaba en cama, enfermo de fiebre y de disentería; y entró Pablo a verle, y después de haber orado, le impuso las manos, y le sanó. 9 Hecho esto, también los otros que en la isla tenían enfermedades, venían, y eran sanados; 10 los cuales también nos honraron con muchas atenciones; y cuando zarpamos, nos cargaron de las cosas necesarias.

Pablo llega a Roma

11 Pasados tres meses, nos hicimos a la vela en una nave alejandrina que había invernado en la isla, la cual tenía por enseña a Cástor y Pólux. 12 Y llegados a Siracusa, estuvimos allí tres días. 13 De allí, costeando alrededor, llegamos a Regio; y otro día después, soplando el viento sur, llegamos al segundo día a Puteoli, 14 donde habiendo hallado hermanos, nos rogaron que nos quedásemos con ellos siete días; y luego fuimos a Roma, 15 de donde, oyendo de nosotros los hermanos, salieron a recibirnos hasta el Foro de Apio y las Tres Tabernas; y al verlos, Pablo dio gracias a Dios y cobró aliento. 16 Cuando llegamos a Roma, el centurión entregó los presos al prefecto militar, pero a Pablo se le permitió vivir aparte, con un soldado que le custodiase.

17 Aconteció que tres días después, Pablo convocó a los principales de los judíos, a los cuales, luego que estuvieron reunidos, les dijo: Yo, varones hermanos, no habiendo hecho nada contra el pueblo, ni contra las costumbres de nuestros padres, he sido entregado preso desde Jerusalén en manos de los romanos; 18 los cuales, habiéndome examinado, me querían soltar, por no haber en mí ninguna causa de muerte. 19 Pero oponiéndose los judíos, me vi obligado a apelar a César;(A) no porque tenga de qué acusar a mi nación. 20 Así que por esta causa os he llamado para veros y hablaros; porque por la esperanza de Israel estoy sujeto con esta cadena. 21 Entonces ellos le dijeron: Nosotros ni hemos recibido de Judea cartas acerca de ti, ni ha venido alguno de los hermanos que haya denunciado o hablado algún mal de ti. 22 Pero querríamos oír de ti lo que piensas; porque de esta secta nos es notorio que en todas partes se habla contra ella.

23 Y habiéndole señalado un día, vinieron a él muchos a la posada, a los cuales les declaraba y les testificaba el reino de Dios desde la mañana hasta la tarde, persuadiéndoles acerca de Jesús, tanto por la ley de Moisés como por los profetas. 24 Y algunos asentían a lo que se decía, pero otros no creían. 25 Y como no estuviesen de acuerdo entre sí, al retirarse, les dijo Pablo esta palabra: Bien habló el Espíritu Santo por medio del profeta Isaías a nuestros padres, diciendo:

26 Ve a este pueblo, y diles:

De oído oiréis, y no entenderéis;

Y viendo veréis, y no percibiréis;

27 Porque el corazón de este pueblo se ha engrosado,

Y con los oídos oyeron pesadamente,

Y sus ojos han cerrado,

Para que no vean con los ojos,

Y oigan con los oídos,

Y entiendan de corazón,

Y se conviertan,

Y yo los sane.(B)

28 Sabed, pues, que a los gentiles es enviada esta salvación de Dios; y ellos oirán. 29 Y cuando hubo dicho esto, los judíos se fueron, teniendo gran discusión entre sí.

30 Y Pablo permaneció dos años enteros en una casa alquilada, y recibía a todos los que a él venían, 31 predicando el reino de Dios y enseñando acerca del Señor Jesucristo, abiertamente y sin impedimento.

Safe at Malta

28 When (A)they had been brought safely through, (B)then we found out that (C)the island was called [a]Malta. 2 (D)The [b]natives showed us extraordinary kindness, for they kindled a fire and (E)took us all in because of the rain that had started and because of the cold. 3 But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out [c]because of the heat and fastened itself on his hand. 4 When (F)the [d]natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they began saying to one another, “(G)Undoubtedly this man is a murderer, and though he has been saved from the sea, [e]justice has not allowed him to live.” 5 However, [f](H)Paul shook the creature off into the fire and suffered no harm. 6 Now they were expecting that he was going to swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had waited a long time and had seen nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and (I)began to say that he was a god.

7 Now in the neighboring parts of that place were lands belonging to the [g]leading man of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us warmly for three days. 8 And it happened that the father of Publius was lying in bed afflicted with a recurring fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him, and after he (J)prayed, he (K)laid his hands on him and healed him. 9 After this happened, the rest of the people on the island who had diseases were coming to him and being cured. 10 They also showed us many honors, and when we were about to set sail, they [h]supplied us with [i]everything we needed.

Paul Arrives in Rome

11 After three months we set sail on (L)an Alexandrian ship which had wintered at the island, and which had [j]the Twin Brothers for its figurehead. 12 After we put in at Syracuse, we stayed there for three days. 13 From there we sailed around and arrived at Rhegium, and a day later a south wind came up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli. 14 [k]There we found some (M)brothers and sisters, and were invited to stay with them for seven days; and that is how we came to Rome. 15 And from there the (N)brothers and sisters, when they heard about us, came as far as the [l]Market of Appius and the [m]Three Inns to meet us; and when Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.

16 When we entered Rome, Paul was (O)allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier who was guarding him.

17 After three days [n]Paul called together those who were (P)the leading men of the Jews, and when they came together, he began saying to them, “(Q)Brothers, (R)though I had done nothing against our people or (S)the customs of our [o]fathers, yet I was handed over to the Romans as a prisoner from Jerusalem. 18 And when they had (T)examined me, they (U)were willing to release me because there were (V)no grounds [p]for putting me to death. 19 But when the Jews [q]objected, I was forced to (W)appeal to Caesar, not that I had any accusation against my nation. 20 For this reason, therefore, I [r]requested to see you and to speak with you, since I am wearing (X)this chain for (Y)the sake of the hope of Israel.” 21 They said to him, “We have neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor has any of (Z)the brothers come here and reported or spoken anything bad about you. 22 But we desire to hear from you what [s]your views are; for regarding this (AA)sect, it is known to us that (AB)it is spoken against everywhere.”

23 When they had set a day for [t]Paul, people came to him at (AC)his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly (AD)testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, (AE)from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening. 24 (AF)Some were being persuaded by the things said by Paul, but others would not believe. 25 And when they disagreed with one another, they began leaving after Paul said one parting statement: “The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers, 26 saying,

‘(AG)Go to this people and say,
“[u](AH)You will keep on hearing, and will not understand;
And [v]you will keep on seeing, and will not perceive;
27 (AI)For the hearts of this people have become [w]insensitive,
And with their ears they [x]hardly hear,
And they have closed their eyes;
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart and return,
And I would heal them.”’

28 Therefore, let it be known to you that (AJ)this salvation of God has been sent (AK)to the Gentiles; they will also listen.”[y]

30 Now Paul stayed two full years [z]in his own rented lodging and welcomed all who came to him, 31 [aa](AL)preaching the kingdom of God and teaching things about the Lord Jesus Christ (AM)with all openness, unhindered.

1 Pablo, apóstol de Jesucristo por la voluntad de Dios, a los santos y fieles en Cristo Jesús que están en Éfeso:(A) 2 Gracia y paz a vosotros, de Dios nuestro Padre y del Señor Jesucristo.

Bendiciones espirituales en Cristo

3 Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que nos bendijo con toda bendición espiritual en los lugares celestiales en Cristo, 4 según nos escogió en él antes de la fundación del mundo, para que fuésemos santos y sin mancha delante de él, 5 en amor habiéndonos predestinado para ser adoptados hijos suyos por medio de Jesucristo, según el puro afecto de su voluntad, 6 para alabanza de la gloria de su gracia, con la cual nos hizo aceptos en el Amado, 7 en quien tenemos redención por su sangre, el perdón de pecados(B) según las riquezas de su gracia, 8 que hizo sobreabundar para con nosotros en toda sabiduría e inteligencia, 9 dándonos a conocer el misterio de su voluntad, según su beneplácito, el cual se había propuesto en sí mismo, 10 de reunir todas las cosas en Cristo, en la dispensación del cumplimiento de los tiempos, así las que están en los cielos, como las que están en la tierra.

11 En él asimismo tuvimos herencia, habiendo sido predestinados conforme al propósito del que hace todas las cosas según el designio de su voluntad, 12 a fin de que seamos para alabanza de su gloria, nosotros los que primeramente esperábamos en Cristo. 13 En él también vosotros, habiendo oído la palabra de verdad, el evangelio de vuestra salvación, y habiendo creído en él, fuisteis sellados con el Espíritu Santo de la promesa, 14 que es las arras de nuestra herencia hasta la redención de la posesión adquirida, para alabanza de su gloria.

El espíritu de sabiduría y de revelación

15 Por esta causa también yo, habiendo oído de vuestra fe en el Señor Jesús, y de vuestro amor para con todos los santos, 16 no ceso de dar gracias por vosotros, haciendo memoria de vosotros en mis oraciones, 17 para que el Dios de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, el Padre de gloria, os dé espíritu de sabiduría y de revelación en el conocimiento de él, 18 alumbrando los ojos de vuestro entendimiento, para que sepáis cuál es la esperanza a que él os ha llamado, y cuáles las riquezas de la gloria de su herencia en los santos, 19 y cuál la supereminente grandeza de su poder para con nosotros los que creemos, según la operación del poder de su fuerza, 20 la cual operó en Cristo, resucitándole de los muertos y sentándole a su diestra(C) en los lugares celestiales, 21 sobre todo principado y autoridad y poder y señorío, y sobre todo nombre que se nombra, no solo en este siglo, sino también en el venidero; 22 y sometió todas las cosas bajo sus pies,(D) y lo dio por cabeza sobre todas las cosas a la iglesia, 23 la cual es su cuerpo,(E) la plenitud de Aquel que todo lo llena en todo.

Salvos por gracia

2 Y él os dio vida a vosotros, cuando estabais muertos en vuestros delitos y pecados, 2 en los cuales anduvisteis en otro tiempo, siguiendo la corriente de este mundo, conforme al príncipe de la potestad del aire, el espíritu que ahora opera en los hijos de desobediencia, 3 entre los cuales también todos nosotros vivimos en otro tiempo en los deseos de nuestra carne, haciendo la voluntad de la carne y de los pensamientos, y éramos por naturaleza hijos de ira, lo mismo que los demás. 4 Pero Dios, que es rico en misericordia, por su gran amor con que nos amó, 5 aun estando nosotros muertos en pecados, nos dio vida juntamente con Cristo(F) (por gracia sois salvos), 6 y juntamente con él nos resucitó, y asimismo nos hizo sentar en los lugares celestiales con Cristo Jesús, 7 para mostrar en los siglos venideros las abundantes riquezas de su gracia en su bondad para con nosotros en Cristo Jesús. 8 Porque por gracia sois salvos por medio de la fe; y esto no de vosotros, pues es don de Dios; 9 no por obras, para que nadie se gloríe. 10 Porque somos hechura suya, creados en Cristo Jesús para buenas obras, las cuales Dios preparó de antemano para que anduviésemos en ellas.

Reconciliación por medio de la cruz

11 Por tanto, acordaos de que en otro tiempo vosotros, los gentiles en cuanto a la carne, erais llamados incircuncisión por la llamada circuncisión hecha con mano en la carne. 12 En aquel tiempo estabais sin Cristo, alejados de la ciudadanía de Israel y ajenos a los pactos de la promesa, sin esperanza y sin Dios en el mundo. 13 Pero ahora en Cristo Jesús, vosotros que en otro tiempo estabais lejos, habéis sido hechos cercanos por la sangre de Cristo. 14 Porque él es nuestra paz, que de ambos pueblos hizo uno, derribando la pared intermedia de separación, 15 aboliendo en su carne las enemistades, la ley de los mandamientos expresados en ordenanzas,(G) para crear en sí mismo de los dos un solo y nuevo hombre, haciendo la paz, 16 y mediante la cruz reconciliar con Dios a ambos en un solo cuerpo,(H) matando en ella las enemistades. 17 Y vino y anunció las buenas nuevas de paz a vosotros que estabais lejos, y a los que estaban cerca;(I) 18 porque por medio de él los unos y los otros tenemos entrada por un mismo Espíritu al Padre. 19 Así que ya no sois extranjeros ni advenedizos, sino conciudadanos de los santos, y miembros de la familia de Dios, 20 edificados sobre el fundamento de los apóstoles y profetas, siendo la principal piedra del ángulo Jesucristo mismo, 21 en quien todo el edificio, bien coordinado, va creciendo para ser un templo santo en el Señor; 22 en quien vosotros también sois juntamente edificados para morada de Dios en el Espíritu.

3 (I)Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in (J)the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as (K)He chose us in Him before (L)the foundation of the world, that we would be (M)holy and blameless before [d]Him. (N)In love 5 [e]He (O)predestined us to (P)adoption as sons and daughters through Jesus Christ to Himself, (Q)according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 (R)to the praise of the glory of His grace, with which He favored us in (S)the Beloved. 7 (T)In [f]Him we have (U)redemption (V)through His blood, the (W)forgiveness of our wrongdoings, according to (X)the riches of His grace 8 which He [g]lavished on [h]us. Made Alive in Christ

2 And [x]you [y]were (BS)dead [z]in your offenses and sins, 2 in which you (BT)previously walked according to the [aa]course of (BU)this world, according to (BV)the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in (BW)the [ab]sons of disobedience. 3 Among them [ac]we too all (BX)previously lived in (BY)the lusts of our flesh, [ad]indulging the desires of the flesh and of the [ae]mind, and were (BZ)by nature (CA)children of wrath, (CB)just as the rest. 4 But God, being (CC)rich in mercy, because of (CD)His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were (CE)dead [af]in our wrongdoings, made us alive together [ag]with Christ ((CF)by grace you have been saved), 6 and (CG)raised us up with Him, and (CH)seated us with Him in (CI)the heavenly places in (CJ)Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the [ah]boundless (CK)riches of His grace in (CL)kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For (CM)by grace you have been saved (CN)through faith; and [ai]this is not of yourselves, it is (CO)the gift of God; 9 (CP)not a result of works, so that (CQ)no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, (CR)created in (CS)Christ Jesus for (CT)good works, which God (CU)prepared beforehand so that we would (CV)walk in them.

11 Therefore remember that (CW)previously (CX)you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called “(CY)Uncircumcision” by the so-called “(CZ)Circumcision” which is performed in the flesh by human hands— 12 remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, [aj](DA)excluded from [ak]the people of Israel, and strangers to (DB)the covenants of the promise, having (DC)no hope and (DD)without God in the world. 13 But now in (DE)Christ Jesus you who (DF)previously were (DG)far away [al]have (DH)been brought near [am](DI)by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is (DJ)our peace, (DK)who made both groups into one and broke down the [an]barrier of the dividing wall, 15 [ao]by (DL)abolishing [ap]in His flesh the hostility, which is (DM)the Law composed of commandments expressed in ordinances, so that in Himself He might [aq](DN)make the two (DO)one new person, in this way establishing (DP)peace; 16 and that He might (DQ)reconcile them both in (DR)one body to God through the cross, [ar]by it having (DS)put to death the hostility. 17 And (DT)He came and preached (DU)peace to you who were (DV)far away, and peace to those who were (DW)near; 18 for through Him we both have (DX)our access in (DY)one Spirit to (DZ)the Father. 19 So then you are no longer (EA)strangers and foreigners, but you are (EB)fellow citizens with the [as]saints, and are of (EC)God’s household, 20 having been (ED)built on (EE)the foundation of (EF)the apostles and prophets, (EG)Christ Jesus Himself being the (EH)cornerstone, 21 (EI)in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into (EJ)a holy [at]temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being (EK)built together into a (EL)dwelling of God in the Spirit.
