^13 (A)All these died in faith, ^(B)without receiving the promises, but ^(C)having seen and welcomed them from a distance, and ^(D)having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.

³⁹ And all these, having ^(A)gained approval through their faith, ^(B)did not receive ^[a]what was promised, ⁴⁰ because God had ^[b]provided ^(C)something better for us, so that ^(D)apart from us they would not be made perfect.

12 Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s ^(A)rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s ^(B)run with ^(C)endurance the race that is set before us,
