39 And all these, (A)though commended through their faith, (B)did not receive what was promised, 40 since God had provided something better for us, (C)that apart from us they should not be made perfect.

Jesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and (D)sin which clings so closely, and (E)let us run (F)with endurance the race that is (G)set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, (H)who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising (I)the shame, and (J)is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

39 These were all commended(A) for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised,(B) 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us(C) would they be made perfect.(D)

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run(E) with perseverance(F) the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus,(G) the pioneer(H) and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,(I) scorning its shame,(J) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.(K)
