Hebrews 12:4-8
New International Version
God Disciplines His Children
4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.(A) 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart(B) when he rebukes you,
6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,(C)
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a](D)
7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children.(E) For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline(F)—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.

Hebrews 12:4-8
New Living Translation
4 After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin.
5 And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children?[a] He said,
“My child,[b] don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and don’t give up when he corrects you.
6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”[c]
7 As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? 8 If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all.

Hebrews 12:4-8
New King James Version
4 (A)You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:
(B)“My son, do not despise the [a]chastening of the Lord,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
6 For (C)whom the Lord loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”
7 (D)If[b] you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what (E)son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, (F)of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.
