⁵ She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.”^[a](A) And her child was snatched up^(B) to God and to his throne.

⁴ The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls.^(A) She held a golden cup^(B) in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries.^{(C) 5} The name written on her forehead was a mystery:^(D)

⁶ I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people,^(G) the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.

When I saw her, I was greatly astonished.

² Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings^(A) that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” ³ So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron.

¹⁰ Now leave me alone^(A) so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy^(B) them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”^(C)

²⁵ The images of their gods you are to burn^(A) in the fire. Do not covet^(B) the silver and gold on them, and do not take it for yourselves, or you will be ensnared^(C) by it, for it is detestable^(D) to the Lord your God.

¹³ and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, ¹⁴ then your heart will become proud and you will forget^(A) the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
