¹¹ And Israel said to Joseph, “I never ^[a]expected to see your face, and behold, God has let me see your ^[b]children as well!”

¹² So now do not ^(A)give your daughters to their sons nor take their daughters for your sons, and ^(B)never seek their peace or their prosperity, so that you may be strong and may eat the good things of the land, and ^(C)leave it as an inheritance to your sons forever.’

¹⁴ Here ^(A)for this third time I am ready to come to you, and I ^(B)will not be a burden to you; for I ^(C)do not seek what is yours, but ^(D)you; for ^(E)children are not responsible to save up for their parents, but ^(F)parents for their children.

⁴ but if any widow has children or grandchildren, ^(A)they must first learn to show proper respect for their own family and to give back compensation to their parents; for this is ^(B)acceptable in the sight of God.
