20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
4 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

20 Adam[a] named his wife Eve,[b](A) because she would become the mother of all the living.
21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.(B) 22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us,(C) knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life(D) and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden(E) to work the ground(F) from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side[c] of the Garden of Eden(G) cherubim(H) and a flaming sword(I) flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.(J)
Cain and Abel
4 Adam[d] made love to his wife(K) Eve,(L) and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.[e](M) She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth[f] a man.” 2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.(N)
Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.(O) 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering(P) to the Lord.(Q) 4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions(R) from some of the firstborn of his flock.(S) The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering,(T) 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry?(U) Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door;(V) it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.(W)”
8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.”[g] While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.(X)
