²⁷ So God created^(G) mankind^(H) in his own image,^(I)
    in the image of God^(J) he created them;
    male and female^(K) he created them.^(L)

“Cursed^(A) are you above all livestock
    and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
    and you will eat dust^(B)
    all the days of your life.
¹⁵ And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring^[a](C) and hers;^(D)
he will crush^[b] your head,^(E)
    and you will strike his heel.”

“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
    with painful labor you will give birth to children.^(F)
Your desire will be for your husband,
    and he will rule over you.^(G)”

“Cursed^(I) is the ground^(J) because of you;
    through painful toil^(K) you will eat food from it
    all the days of your life.^(L)
18 It will produce thorns and thistles^(M) for you,
    and you will eat the plants of the field.^(N)
19 By the sweat of your brow^(O)
    you will eat your food^(P)
until you return to the ground,
    since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
    and to dust you will return.”^(Q)

¹⁰ He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;^(A)
    I will be exalted^(B) among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

⁶ Come, let us bow down^(A) in worship,^(B)
    let us kneel^(C) before the Lord our Maker;^(D)
7 for he is our God
    and we are the people of his pasture,^(E)
    the flock under his care.

Today, if only you would hear his voice,
⁸ “Do not harden your hearts^(F) as you did at Meribah,^[a](G)
    as you did that day at Massah^[b] in the wilderness,^(H)
9 where your ancestors tested^(I) me;
    they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
¹⁰ For forty years^(J) I was angry with that generation;
    I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,^(K)
    and they have not known my ways.’^(L)
11 So I declared on oath^(M) in my anger,
    ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”^(N)
