Abraham and the Covenant of Circumcision

17 Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, ^(A)the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him,

³ Abram ^(F)fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying,

⁶ I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and ^(J)kings will come from you. ⁷ I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your ^[f]descendants after you throughout their generations as an ^(K)everlasting covenant, ^(L)to be God to you and ^(M)to your ^[g]descendants after you. ⁸ And ^(N)I will give to you and to your ^[h]descendants after you the land where you live as a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and ^(O)I will be their God.”

He then says,

Benediction

²⁰ Now may ^(A)the God of peace, who ^(B)brought up from the dead the ^(C)great Shepherd of the sheep ^[a]through ^(D)the blood of the ^(E)eternal covenant, that is, Jesus our Lord, ^21 (F)equip you in every good thing to do His will, ^(G)working in us that ^(H)which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, ^(I)to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

³¹ “^(A)Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a ^(B)new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, ³² not like the ^(C)covenant which I made with their fathers on the day I ^(D)took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My ^(E)covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. ³³ “For ^(F)this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord: “^(G)I will put My law within them and write it on their heart; and ^(H)I will be their God, and they shall be My people. ³⁴ They will ^(I)not teach again, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all ^(J)know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will ^(K)forgive their wrongdoing, and their ^(L)sin I will no longer remember.”

²⁵ Then I will ^(A)sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your ^(B)filthiness and from all your ^(C)idols. ²⁶ Moreover, I will give you a ^(D)new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the ^(E)heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. ²⁷ And I will ^(F)put My Spirit within you and bring it about that you walk in My statutes, and are careful and ^[a]follow My ordinances. ²⁸ And you will live in the land that I gave to your forefathers; so you will be ^(G)My people, and I will be your God.
