GOD’S WORD Translation
The Lord’s First Promise to Abram
12 The Lord said to Abram,
“Leave your land,
your relatives,
and your father’s home.
Go to the land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation,
I will bless you.
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you, I will curse.
Through you every family on earth will be blessed.”
The Lord’s Second Promise to Abram
4 So Abram left, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran. 5 Abram set out for Canaan. He took along his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all the possessions they had accumulated and the servants they had acquired in Haran.
6 They arrived in Canaan, and Abram traveled through the land to the oak tree belonging to Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I’m going to give this land to your descendants.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
8 He moved on to the hills east of Bethel, and he put up his tent—with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. He also built an altar to the Lord there and worshiped the Lord. 9 Abram kept moving toward the Negev.
Abram Deceives Pharaoh
10 There was a famine in the land. Abram went to Egypt to stay awhile because the famine was severe. 11 When he was about to enter Egypt, Abram said to his wife Sarai, “I know that you’re a beautiful woman. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they’ll say, ‘This is his wife!’ Then they’ll kill me but let you live. 13 Please say that you’re my sister. Then everything will be alright for me, and because of you I will live.”
14 When Abram arrived in Egypt, the Egyptians saw how very beautiful his wife was. 15 When Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they raved about her to Pharaoh, so Sarai was taken to Pharaoh’s palace. 16 Everything went well for Abram because of her, and he was given sheep, cattle, donkeys, male and female slaves, and camels.
17 However, the Lord struck Pharaoh and his household with terrible plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. 18 Then Pharaoh called for Abram. “What have you done to me?” he asked. “Why didn’t you tell me that she’s your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She’s my sister’ and allow me to take her for my wife? Here’s your wife! Take her and go!” 20 Pharaoh gave his men orders concerning Abram. They sent Abram away with his wife and everything that he had.

The Call of Abram
12 Now (A)the Lord said[a] to Abram, “Go from your country[b] and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2 (B)And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 (C)I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and (D)in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”[c]
4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from (E)Haran. 5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people that they had acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan, 6 Abram (F)passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to (G)the oak[d] of (H)Moreh. At that time (I)the Canaanites were in the land. 7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, (J)“To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 From there he moved to the hill country on the east of (K)Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord. 9 And Abram journeyed on, still going toward the Negeb.
Abram and Sarai in Egypt
10 Now (L)there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land. 11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, “I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance, 12 and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they (M)will kill me, but they will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister, that it may go well with me because of you, and that my life may be spared for your sake.” 14 When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. 15 And when the princes of Pharaoh saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. 16 And for her sake he dealt well with Abram; and he had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.
17 But the Lord (N)afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. 18 So Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife; take her, and go.” 20 And Pharaoh gave men orders concerning him, and they sent him away with his wife and all that he had.

4 So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5 Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and (J)the [a]people whom they had acquired (K)in Haran, and they (L)departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan. 6 Abram (M)passed through the land to the place of Shechem, (N)as far as [b]the terebinth tree of Moreh. (O)And the Canaanites were then in the land.
7 (P)Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, (Q)“To your [c]descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an (R)altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and (S)called on the name of the Lord. 9 So Abram journeyed, (T)going on still toward the [d]South.
Abram in Egypt
10 Now there was (U)a famine in the land, and Abram (V)went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was (W)severe in the land. 11 And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Indeed I know that you are (X)a woman of beautiful countenance. 12 Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they (Y)will kill me, but they will let you live. 13 (Z)Please say you are my (AA)sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that [e]I may live because of you.”
14 So it was, when Abram came into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful. 15 The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and commended her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s house. 16 He (AB)treated Abram well for her sake. He (AC)had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female servants, female donkeys, and camels.
17 But the Lord (AD)plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. 18 And Pharaoh called Abram and said, (AE)“What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’? I might have taken her as my wife. Now therefore, here is your wife; take her and go your way.” 20 (AF)So Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they sent him away, with his wife and all that he had.

12 Pero Jehová había dicho a Abram: Vete de tu tierra y de tu parentela, y de la casa de tu padre, a la tierra que te mostraré.(A) 2 Y haré de ti una nación grande, y te bendeciré, y engrandeceré tu nombre, y serás bendición. 3 Bendeciré a los que te bendijeren, y a los que te maldijeren maldeciré; y serán benditas en ti todas las familias de la tierra.(B) 4 Y se fue Abram, como Jehová le dijo; y Lot fue con él. Y era Abram de edad de setenta y cinco años cuando salió de Harán. 5 Tomó, pues, Abram a Sarai su mujer, y a Lot hijo de su hermano, y todos sus bienes que habían ganado y las personas que habían adquirido en Harán, y salieron para ir a tierra de Canaán; y a tierra de Canaán llegaron.
6 Y pasó Abram por aquella tierra hasta el lugar de Siquem, hasta el encino de More; y el cananeo estaba entonces en la tierra. 7 Y apareció Jehová a Abram, y le dijo: A tu descendencia daré esta tierra.(C) Y edificó allí un altar a Jehová, quien le había aparecido. 8 Luego se pasó de allí a un monte al oriente de Bet-el, y plantó su tienda, teniendo a Bet-el al occidente y Hai al oriente; y edificó allí altar a Jehová, e invocó el nombre de Jehová. 9 Y Abram partió de allí, caminando y yendo hacia el Neguev.

10 Hubo entonces hambre en la tierra, y descendió Abram a Egipto para morar allá; porque era grande el hambre en la tierra. 11 Y aconteció que cuando estaba para entrar en Egipto, dijo a Sarai su mujer: He aquí, ahora conozco que eres mujer de hermoso aspecto; 12 y cuando te vean los egipcios, dirán: Su mujer es; y me matarán a mí, y a ti te reservarán la vida. 13 Ahora, pues, di que eres mi hermana,(D) para que me vaya bien por causa tuya, y viva mi alma por causa de ti.
14 Y aconteció que cuando entró Abram en Egipto, los egipcios vieron que la mujer era hermosa en gran manera. 15 También la vieron los príncipes de Faraón, y la alabaron delante de él; y fue llevada la mujer a casa de Faraón. 16 E hizo bien a Abram por causa de ella; y él tuvo ovejas, vacas, asnos, siervos, criadas, asnas y camellos. 17 Mas Jehová hirió a Faraón y a su casa con grandes plagas, por causa de Sarai mujer de Abram. 18 Entonces Faraón llamó a Abram, y le dijo: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho conmigo? ¿Por qué no me declaraste que era tu mujer? 19 ¿Por qué dijiste: Es mi hermana, poniéndome en ocasión de tomarla para mí por mujer? Ahora, pues, he aquí tu mujer; tómala, y vete. 20 Entonces Faraón dio orden a su gente acerca de Abram; y le acompañaron, y a su mujer, con todo lo que tenía.

4 И пошел Аврам, как сказал ему Господь; и с ним пошел Лот. Аврам был семидесяти пяти лет, когда вышел из Харрана.
5 И взял Аврам с собою Сару, жену свою, Лота, сына брата своего, и все имение, которое они приобрели, и всех людей, которых они имели в Харране; и вышли, чтобы идти в землю Ханаанскую; и пришли в землю Ханаанскую.
6 И прошел Аврам по земле сей до места Сихема, до дубравы Море. В этой земле тогда [жили] Хананеи.
7 И явился Господь Авраму и сказал: потомству твоему отдам Я землю сию. И создал [он] там жертвенник Господу, Который явился ему.
8 Оттуда двинулся он к горе, на восток от Вефиля; и поставил шатер свой [так, что от него] Вефиль [был] на запад, а Гай на восток; и создал там жертвенник Господу и призвал имя Господа.
9 И поднялся Аврам и продолжал идти к югу.
10 И был голод в той земле. И сошел Аврам в Египет, пожить там, потому что усилился голод в земле той.
11 Когда же он приближался к Египту, то сказал Саре, жене своей: вот, я знаю, что ты женщина, прекрасная видом;
12 и когда Египтяне увидят тебя, то скажут: это жена его; и убьют меня, а тебя оставят в живых;
13 скажи же, что ты мне сестра, дабы мне хорошо было ради тебя, и дабы жива была душа моя чрез тебя.
14 И было, когда пришел Аврам в Египет, Египтяне увидели, что она женщина весьма красивая;
15 увидели ее и вельможи фараоновы и похвалили ее фараону; и взята была она в дом фараонов.
16 И Авраму хорошо было ради ее; и был у него мелкий и крупный скот и ослы, и рабы и рабыни, и лошаки и верблюды.
17 Но Господь поразил тяжкими ударами фараона и дом его за Сару, жену Аврамову.
18 И призвал фараон Аврама и сказал: что ты это сделал со мною? для чего не сказал мне, что она жена твоя?
19 для чего ты сказал: она сестра моя? и я взял было ее себе в жену. И теперь вот жена твоя; возьми и пойди.
20 И дал о нем фараон повеление людям, и проводили его, и жену его, и все, что у него было.
