8 Cush fathered Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man.[a] 9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord. Therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the Lord.” 10 The beginning of his kingdom was (A)Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in (B)the land of Shinar. 11 From that land he went into Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, and 12 Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. 13 (C)Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,

8 Cush was the father[a] of Nimrod,(A) who became a mighty warrior on the earth. 9 He was a mighty(B) hunter(C) before the Lord; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.” 10 The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon,(D) Uruk,(E) Akkad and Kalneh,(F) in[b] Shinar.[c](G) 11 From that land he went to Assyria,(H) where he built Nineveh,(I) Rehoboth Ir,[d] Calah 12 and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah—which is the great city.
