The Creation

1 ^(A)In the beginning ^(B)God ^(C)created the heavens and the earth.

⁸ God called the ^[a]expanse “heaven.” And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.

⁹ Then God said, “^(A)Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let ^(B)the dry land appear”; and it was so.

¹⁴ Then God said, “Let there be ^[a](A)lights in the ^[b](B)expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and they shall ^[c]serve as ^(C)signs and for ^(D)seasons, and for days and years;

¹⁵ and they ^[a]shall serve as lights in the ^[b]expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.

^17 (A)God placed them in the ^[a]expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,

²⁰ Then God said, “Let the waters ^[a]teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth ^[b]in the open ^[c]expanse of the heavens.”

²⁶ Then God said, “^[a]Let ^(A)Us make ^(B)mankind in Our image, according to Our likeness; and ^[b]let them ^(C)rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the livestock and over all the earth, and over every crawling thing that crawls on the earth.”

²⁸ God blessed them; and God said to them, “^(A)Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that ^[a]moves on the earth.”

³⁰ and ^(A)to every animal of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to everything that ^[a]moves on the earth ^[b]which has life, I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so.
