17 Vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo: 18 Hijo de hombre, la casa de Israel se me ha convertido en escoria; todos ellos son bronce y estaño y hierro y plomo en medio del horno; y en escorias de plata se convirtieron. 19 Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Por cuanto todos vosotros os habéis convertido en escorias, por tanto, he aquí que yo os reuniré en medio de Jerusalén. 20 Como quien junta plata y bronce y hierro y plomo y estaño en medio del horno, para encender fuego en él para fundirlos, así os juntaré en mi furor y en mi ira, y os pondré allí, y os fundiré. 21 Yo os juntaré y soplaré sobre vosotros en el fuego de mi furor, y en medio de él seréis fundidos. 22 Como se funde la plata en medio del horno, así seréis fundidos en medio de él; y sabréis que yo Jehová habré derramado mi enojo sobre vosotros.

23 Vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo: 24 Hijo de hombre, di a ella: Tú no eres tierra limpia, ni rociada con lluvia en el día del furor. 25 Hay conjuración de sus profetas en medio de ella, como león rugiente que arrebata presa; devoraron almas, tomaron haciendas y honra, multiplicaron sus viudas en medio de ella. 26 Sus sacerdotes violaron mi ley, y contaminaron mis santuarios; entre lo santo y lo profano no hicieron diferencia, ni distinguieron entre inmundo y limpio;(A) y de mis días de reposo[a] apartaron sus ojos, y yo he sido profanado en medio de ellos. 27 Sus príncipes en medio de ella son como lobos que arrebatan presa, derramando sangre, para destruir las almas, para obtener ganancias injustas. 28 Y sus profetas recubrían con lodo suelto, profetizándoles vanidad y adivinándoles mentira, diciendo: Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor; y Jehová no había hablado. 29 El pueblo de la tierra usaba de opresión y cometía robo, al afligido y menesteroso hacía violencia, y al extranjero oprimía sin derecho. 30 Y busqué entre ellos hombre que hiciese vallado y que se pusiese en la brecha delante de mí, a favor de la tierra, para que yo no la destruyese; y no lo hallé. 31 Por tanto, derramé sobre ellos mi ira; con el ardor de mi ira los consumí; hice volver el camino de ellos sobre su propia cabeza, dice Jehová el Señor.

Las dos hermanas

23 Vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo: 2 Hijo de hombre, hubo dos mujeres, hijas de una madre, 3 las cuales fornicaron en Egipto; en su juventud fornicaron. Allí fueron apretados sus pechos, allí fueron estrujados sus pechos virginales. 4 Y se llamaban, la mayor, Ahola,[b] y su hermana, Aholiba;[c] las cuales llegaron a ser mías, y dieron a luz hijos e hijas. Y se llamaron: Samaria, Ahola; y Jerusalén, Aholiba.

5 Y Ahola cometió fornicación aun estando en mi poder; y se enamoró de sus amantes los asirios, vecinos suyos, 6 vestidos de púrpura, gobernadores y capitanes, jóvenes codiciables todos ellos, jinetes que iban a caballo. 7 Y se prostituyó con ellos, con todos los más escogidos de los hijos de los asirios, y con todos aquellos de quienes se enamoró; se contaminó con todos los ídolos de ellos. 8 Y no dejó sus fornicaciones de Egipto; porque con ella se echaron en su juventud, y ellos comprimieron sus pechos virginales, y derramaron sobre ella su fornicación. 9 Por lo cual la entregué en mano de sus amantes, en mano de los hijos de los asirios, de quienes se había enamorado. 10 Ellos descubrieron su desnudez, tomaron sus hijos y sus hijas, y a ella mataron a espada; y vino a ser famosa entre las mujeres, pues en ella hicieron escarmiento.

11 Y lo vio su hermana Aholiba, y enloqueció de lujuria más que ella; y sus fornicaciones fueron más que las fornicaciones de su hermana. 12 Se enamoró de los hijos de los asirios sus vecinos, gobernadores y capitanes, vestidos de ropas y armas excelentes, jinetes que iban a caballo, todos ellos jóvenes codiciables. 13 Y vi que se había contaminado; un mismo camino era el de ambas. 14 Y aumentó sus fornicaciones; pues cuando vio a hombres pintados en la pared, imágenes de caldeos pintadas de color, 15 ceñidos por sus lomos con talabartes, y tiaras de colores en sus cabezas, teniendo todos ellos apariencia de capitanes, a la manera de los hombres de Babilonia, de Caldea, tierra de su nacimiento, 16 se enamoró de ellos a primera vista, y les envió mensajeros a la tierra de los caldeos. 17 Así, pues, se llegaron a ella los hombres de Babilonia en su lecho de amores, y la contaminaron, y ella también se contaminó con ellos, y su alma se hastió de ellos. 18 Así hizo patentes sus fornicaciones y descubrió sus desnudeces, por lo cual mi alma se hastió de ella, como se había ya hastiado mi alma de su hermana. 19 Aun multiplicó sus fornicaciones, trayendo en memoria los días de su juventud, en los cuales había fornicado en la tierra de Egipto. 20 Y se enamoró de sus rufianes, cuya lujuria es como el ardor carnal de los asnos, y cuyo flujo como flujo de caballos. 21 Así trajiste de nuevo a la memoria la lujuria de tu juventud, cuando los egipcios comprimieron tus pechos, los pechos de tu juventud.

22 Por tanto, Aholiba, así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: He aquí que yo suscitaré contra ti a tus amantes, de los cuales se hastió tu alma, y les haré venir contra ti en derredor; 23 los de Babilonia, y todos los caldeos, los de Pecod, Soa y Coa, y todos los de Asiria con ellos; jóvenes codiciables, gobernadores y capitanes, nobles y varones de renombre, que montan a caballo todos ellos. 24 Y vendrán contra ti carros, carretas y ruedas, y multitud de pueblos. Escudos, paveses y yelmos pondrán contra ti en derredor; y yo pondré delante de ellos el juicio, y por sus leyes te juzgarán. 25 Y pondré mi celo contra ti, y procederán contigo con furor; te quitarán tu nariz y tus orejas, y lo que te quedare caerá a espada. Ellos tomarán a tus hijos y a tus hijas, y tu remanente será consumido por el fuego. 26 Y te despojarán de tus vestidos, y te arrebatarán todos los adornos de tu hermosura. 27 Y haré cesar de ti tu lujuria, y tu fornicación de la tierra de Egipto; y no levantarás ya más a ellos tus ojos, ni nunca más te acordarás de Egipto. 28 Porque así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: He aquí, yo te entrego en mano de aquellos que aborreciste, en mano de aquellos de los cuales se hastió tu alma; 29 los cuales procederán contigo con odio, y tomarán todo el fruto de tu labor, y te dejarán desnuda y descubierta; y se descubrirá la inmundicia de tus fornicaciones, y tu lujuria y tu prostitución. 30 Estas cosas se harán contigo porque fornicaste en pos de las naciones, con las cuales te contaminaste en sus ídolos. 31 En el camino de tu hermana anduviste; yo, pues, pondré su cáliz en tu mano.

32 Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Beberás el hondo y ancho cáliz de tu hermana, que es de gran capacidad; de ti se mofarán las naciones, y te escarnecerán. 33 Serás llena de embriaguez y de dolor por el cáliz de soledad y de desolación, por el cáliz de tu hermana Samaria. 34 Lo beberás, pues, y lo agotarás, y quebrarás sus tiestos; y rasgarás tus pechos, porque yo he hablado, dice Jehová el Señor. 35 Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Por cuanto te has olvidado de mí, y me has echado tras tus espaldas, por eso, lleva tú también tu lujuria y tus fornicaciones.

36 Y me dijo Jehová: Hijo de hombre, ¿no juzgarás tú a Ahola y a Aholiba, y les denunciarás sus abominaciones? 37 Porque han adulterado, y hay sangre en sus manos, y han fornicado con sus ídolos; y aun a sus hijos que habían dado a luz para mí, hicieron pasar por el fuego, quemándolos. 38 Aun esto más me hicieron: contaminaron mi santuario en aquel día, y profanaron mis días de reposo.[d] 39 Pues habiendo sacrificado sus hijos a sus ídolos, entraban en mi santuario el mismo día para contaminarlo; y he aquí, así hicieron en medio de mi casa. 40 Además, enviaron por hombres que viniesen de lejos, a los cuales había sido enviado mensajero, y he aquí vinieron; y por amor de ellos te lavaste, y pintaste tus ojos, y te ataviaste con adornos; 41 y te sentaste sobre suntuoso estrado, y fue preparada mesa delante de él, y sobre ella pusiste mi incienso y mi aceite. 42 Y se oyó en ella voz de compañía que se solazaba con ella; y con los varones de la gente común fueron traídos los sabeos del desierto, y pusieron pulseras en sus manos, y bellas coronas sobre sus cabezas.

43 Y dije respecto de la envejecida en adulterios: ¿Todavía cometerán fornicaciones con ella, y ella con ellos? 44 Porque han venido a ella como quien viene a mujer ramera; así vinieron a Ahola y a Aholiba, mujeres depravadas. 45 Por tanto, hombres justos las juzgarán por la ley de las adúlteras, y por la ley de las que derraman sangre; porque son adúlteras, y sangre hay en sus manos.

46 Por lo que así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Yo haré subir contra ellas tropas, las entregaré a turbación y a rapiña, 47 y las turbas las apedrearán, y las atravesarán con sus espadas; matarán a sus hijos y a sus hijas, y sus casas consumirán con fuego. 48 Y haré cesar la lujuria de la tierra, y escarmentarán todas las mujeres, y no harán según vuestras perversidades. 49 Y sobre vosotras pondrán vuestras perversidades, y pagaréis los pecados de vuestra idolatría; y sabréis que yo soy Jehová el Señor.

17 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 18 “Son of man, the house of Israel has become [a](A)waste metal to Me; all of them are (B)bronze, tin, iron, and lead in the (C)smelting furnace; they are the [b]waste metal of silver. 19 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: ‘Because all of you have become [c]waste metal, therefore, behold, I am going to gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. 20 As they gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the (D)smelting furnace to blow fire on it in order to melt it, so I will gather you in My anger and in My wrath, and I will place you there and melt you. 21 And I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of My wrath, and you will be melted in the midst of it. 22 As silver is melted in the furnace, so you will be melted in the midst of it; and you will know that I, the Lord, have (E)poured out My wrath on you.’”

23 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 24 “Son of man, say to her, ‘You are a land that is (F)not clean or rained on in the day of indignation.’ 25 There is a (G)conspiracy of her prophets in her midst like a roaring lion tearing the prey. They have (H)devoured lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many (I)widows in the midst of her. 26 Her (J)priests have done violence to My Law and have (K)profaned My holy things; they have made no (L)distinction between the holy and the [d]common, and they have not taught the difference between the (M)unclean and the clean; and they have closed their eyes from My Sabbaths, and I am defiled among them. 27 Her leaders within her are like wolves tearing the prey, by shedding blood and (N)destroying lives in order to make (O)dishonest profit. 28 And her prophets have coated with whitewash for them, seeing (P)false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘This is what the Lord God says,’ when the Lord has not spoken. 29 The people of the land have practiced (Q)extortion and committed robbery, and they have oppressed the poor and needy, and have (R)oppressed the stranger without justice. 30 I (S)searched for a man among them who would (T)build up a wall and (U)stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found [e]no one. 31 So I have poured out My (V)indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; I have brought (W)their way upon their heads,” declares the Lord God.

Oholah and Oholibah’s Sin and Its Consequences

23 The word of the Lord came to me again, saying, 2 “Son of man, there were (X)two women, the daughters of one mother; 3 and they prostituted themselves in Egypt. They (Y)prostituted themselves in their youth; there their breasts were squeezed and there their virgin breasts were handled. 4 Their names were Oholah the elder and Oholibah her sister. And they became Mine, and they gave birth to sons and daughters. And as for their names, Samaria is Oholah and Jerusalem is Oholibah.

5 “Oholah prostituted herself [f]while she was Mine; and she lusted after her lovers, after the (Z)Assyrians, her neighbors, 6 who were clothed in purple, (AA)governors and officials, all of them handsome young men, horsemen riding on horses. 7 She bestowed her [g]obscene practices on them, all of whom were the choicest [h]men of Assyria; and with all whom she lusted after, with all their idols she (AB)defiled herself. 8 She did not abandon her obscene practices (AC)from the time in Egypt; for in her youth [i]men had slept with her, and they handled her virgin breasts and poured out their obscene practice on her. 9 Therefore, I handed her over to her (AD)lovers, to the [j]Assyrians, after whom she lusted. 10 They (AE)uncovered her nakedness; they took her sons and her daughters, but they killed her with the sword. So she became a [k]subject of gossip among women, and they executed judgments on her.

11 “Now her sister Oholibah saw this, yet she was (AF)more corrupt in her lust than she, and her obscene practices were [l]more than the prostitution of her sister. 12 She lusted after the [m](AG)Assyrians, governors and officials, the ones near, opulently dressed, horsemen riding on horses, all of them handsome young men. 13 And I saw that she had defiled herself; they both took [n]the same way. 14 So she increased her obscene practices. And she saw men (AH)carved on the wall, images of the (AI)Chaldeans drawn in bright red, 15 wearing belts around their waists, with flowing turbans on their heads, all of them looking like officers, [o]like the [p]Babylonians in Chaldea, the land of their birth. 16 And [q]when she saw them she (AJ)lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea. 17 And the [r](AK)Babylonians came to her to the bed of love and defiled her with their obscene practice. And when she had been defiled by them, [s]she turned away from them in disgust. 18 She (AL)exposed her obscene practices and exposed her nakedness; then [t]I turned away from her in (AM)disgust, just as [u]I had turned away from her (AN)sister in disgust. 19 Yet she multiplied her obscene practices, remembering the days of her youth, when she prostituted herself in the land of Egypt. 20 She (AO)lusted after their lovers, whose flesh is like the flesh of donkeys and whose discharge is like the discharge of horses. 21 So you longed for the (AP)outrageous sin of your youth, when [v]the Egyptians handled your breasts because of the breasts of your youth.

22 “Therefore, Oholibah, this is what the Lord [w]God says: ‘Behold I am going to incite your lovers against you, from whom [x]you turned away in disgust, and I will bring them against you from every side: 23 the [y](AQ)Babylonians and all the (AR)Chaldeans, (AS)Pekod and Shoa and Koa, and all the [z](AT)Assyrians with them; handsome young men, governors and officials all of them, officers and [aa]men of renown, all of them riding on horses. 24 And they will come against you with weapons, (AU)chariots, and [ab]wagons, and with a contingent of peoples. They will attack you on every side with shield, [ac]buckler, and helmet; and I will commit the (AV)judgment to them, and they will judge you according to their customs. 25 I will set My (AW)jealousy against you, so that they may deal with you in wrath. They will remove your nose and your ears; and your [ad]survivors will fall by the sword. They will take your (AX)sons and your daughters; and your [ae]survivors will be consumed by the fire. 26 They will also (AY)strip you of your clothes and take away your (AZ)beautiful jewelry. 27 So (BA)I will remove from you your outrageous sin and your prostitution that you brought from the land of Egypt, so that you will not raise your eyes to them or remember Egypt anymore.’ 28 For this is what the Lord God says: ‘Behold, I am going to hand you over to those whom you (BB)hate, to those from whom [af]you turned away in disgust. 29 They will (BC)deal with you in hatred, take all your property, and leave you naked and bare. And the nakedness of your prostitution will be exposed, both your outrageous sin and your obscene practices. 30 These things will be done to you because you have (BD)adulterously pursued the nations, because you have defiled yourself with their idols. 31 You have walked in the way of your sister; therefore I will put (BE)her cup in your hand.’ 32 This is what the Lord God says:

‘You will (BF)drink your sister’s cup,
Which is deep and wide.
[ag]You will be (BG)laughed at and held in derision;
Because it contains much.
33 You will be filled with (BH)drunkenness and grief,
A cup of horror and desolation,
The cup of your sister Samaria.
34 And you will (BI)drink it and drain it.
Then you will gnaw on its fragments
And tear your breasts;

for I have spoken,’ declares the Lord God. 35 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: ‘Because you have (BJ)forgotten Me and (BK)discarded Me behind your back, suffer on your own part the punishment for your outrageous sin and your obscene practices.’”

36 Moreover, the Lord said to me, “Son of man, will you (BL)judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then (BM)declare to them their abominations. 37 For they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. So they have committed adultery with their idols, and even made their sons, (BN)whom they bore to Me, pass through the fire to [ah]them as food. 38 Again, they have done this to Me: they have (BO)defiled My sanctuary on the same day, and have (BP)profaned My Sabbaths. 39 For when they slaughtered their children for their idols, they entered My (BQ)sanctuary on the same day to profane it; and behold, this is what they did within My house.

40 “Furthermore, [ai]they have even sent for men who come from a great distance, to whom a messenger was sent; and behold, they came—for whom you bathed, (BR)put makeup on your eyes, and (BS)adorned yourselves with jewelry; 41 and you sat on a splendid (BT)couch with a (BU)table arranged in front of it on which you had set My (BV)incense and My (BW)oil. 42 And the sound of a [aj](BX)carefree multitude was with her; and (BY)heavy drinkers were brought from the wilderness with people from the multitude of humanity. And they put (BZ)bracelets on [ak]the wrists of the women and beautiful crowns on their heads.

43 “Then I said concerning her who was (CA)worn out by adulteries, ‘[al]Will they now commit adultery with her when she is like this?’ 44 [am]But they went in to her as they would go in to a prostitute. This is how they went in to Oholah and to Oholibah, the lewd women. 45 But they, righteous people, will (CB)judge them with the judgment of adulteresses and with the judgment of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses and blood is on their hands.

46 “For this is what the Lord God says: ‘Bring up a contingent against them and turn them over to (CC)terror and plunder. 47 The contingent will (CD)stone them with stones and cut them down with their swords; they will kill their sons and their daughters and (CE)burn their houses with fire. 48 So I will eliminate outrageous conduct from the land, so that all women will take warning and not commit [an]outrageous sin as you have done. 49 Your outrageous conduct [ao]will be (CF)repaid to you, and you will bear the guilt for your idols; so you will know that I am the Lord God.’”

25 Aconteció a los nueve años de su reinado, en el mes décimo, a los diez días del mes, que Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia vino con todo su ejército contra Jerusalén, y la sitió,(B) y levantó torres contra ella alrededor. 2 Y estuvo la ciudad sitiada hasta el año undécimo del rey Sedequías.

Nebuchadnezzar Besieges Jerusalem

25 (C)Now in the ninth year of his reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, (D)Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, camped against it, and (E)built a siege wall all around [a]it. 2 So the city was under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

Parábola de la olla hirviente

24 Vino a mí palabra de Jehová en el año noveno, en el mes décimo, a los diez días del mes, diciendo: 2 Hijo de hombre, escribe la fecha de este día; el rey de Babilonia puso sitio a Jerusalén(A) este mismo día. 3 Y habla por parábola a la casa rebelde, y diles: Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Pon una olla, ponla, y echa también en ella agua; 4 junta sus piezas de carne en ella; todas buenas piezas, pierna y espalda; llénala de huesos escogidos. 5 Toma una oveja escogida, y también enciende los huesos debajo de ella; haz que hierva bien; cuece también sus huesos dentro de ella.

6 Pues así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: ¡Ay de la ciudad de sangres, de la olla herrumbrosa cuya herrumbre no ha sido quitada! Por sus piezas, por sus piezas sácala, sin echar suerte sobre ella. 7 Porque su sangre está en medio de ella; sobre una piedra alisada la ha derramado; no la derramó sobre la tierra para que fuese cubierta con polvo. 8 Habiendo, pues, hecho subir la ira para hacer venganza, yo pondré su sangre sobre la dura piedra, para que no sea cubierta. 9 Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: ¡Ay de la ciudad de sangres! Pues también haré yo gran hoguera, 10 multiplicando la leña, y encendiendo el fuego para consumir la carne y hacer la salsa; y los huesos serán quemados. 11 Asentando después la olla vacía sobre sus brasas, para que se caldee, y se queme su fondo, y se funda en ella su suciedad, y se consuma su herrumbre. 12 En vano se cansó, y no salió de ella su mucha herrumbre. Solo en fuego será su herrumbre consumida. 13 En tu inmunda lujuria padecerás, porque te limpié, y tú no te limpiaste de tu inmundicia; nunca más te limpiarás, hasta que yo sacie mi ira sobre ti. 14 Yo Jehová he hablado; vendrá, y yo lo haré. No me volveré atrás, ni tendré misericordia, ni me arrepentiré; según tus caminos y tus obras te juzgarán, dice Jehová el Señor.

Parable of the Boiling Pot

24 Now the word of the Lord came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying, 2 “Son of man, write the name of the day, this very day. The king of Babylon [a]has (A)laid siege to Jerusalem this very day. 3 Present a (B)parable to the (C)rebellious house and say to them, ‘This is what the Lord [b]God says:

“Put on the (D)pot, put it on and also pour water into it;
4 [c](E)Put in it the pieces of meat,
Every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder;
Fill it with choice bones.
5 Take the (F)choicest of the flock,
And also stack [d]wood under [e]the pot.
Make it boil vigorously.
Also boil its bones in it.”

6 ‘Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:

“Woe to the (G)bloody city,
To the pot in which there is rust
And whose rust has not gone out of it!
Take out of it piece after piece,
[f]Without making a choice.
7 For her blood is in her midst;
She placed it on the bare rock;
She did not (H)pour it on the ground
To cover it with dust.
8 So that it may (I)cause wrath to come up to take vengeance,
I have put her blood on the bare rock,
So that it will not be covered.”

9 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:

“(J)Woe to the bloody city!
I also will make the wood pile great.
10 Heap on the wood, kindle the fire,
[g]Cook the meat thoroughly
And mix in the spices,
And let the bones be burned up.
11 Then (K)set it empty on its burning coals
So that it may be hot
And its bronze may [h]glow,
And its (L)filthiness may be melted in it,
Its rust eliminated.
12 She has (M)wearied Me with work,
Yet her great rust has not gone from her;
Let her rust be in the fire!
13 In your filthiness is outrageous sin.
Because I would have cleansed you,
Yet you are (N)not clean,
You will not be cleansed from your filthiness again
Until I have [i](O)expended My wrath on you.

14 I, the Lord, have spoken; it is (P)coming and I will act. I will not overlook, I will not (Q)pity, and I will not be sorry; (R)according to your ways and according to your deeds [j]I will judge you,” declares the Lord God.’”
