Idolatry in the Temple

8 In the sixth year, in the sixth month on the fifth day, while I was sitting in my house and the elders^(A) of Judah were sitting before^(B) me, the hand of the Sovereign Lord came on me there.^{(C) 2} I looked, and I saw a figure like that of a man.^[a] From what appeared to be his waist down he was like fire, and from there up his appearance was as bright as glowing metal.^{(D) 3} He stretched out what looked like a hand^(E) and took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up^(F) between earth and heaven and in visions^(G) of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court,^(H) where the idol that provokes to jealousy^(I) stood. ⁴ And there before me was the glory^(J) of the God of Israel, as in the vision I had seen in the plain.^(K)

³¹ Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him,^{(A) 32} but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”

³³ “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”^(B)

³⁴ Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law,^(C) ‘I have said you are “gods”’^[a]?^{(D) 35} If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God^(E) came—and Scripture cannot be set aside^(F)— ³⁶ what about the one whom the Father set apart^(G) as his very own^(H) and sent into the world?^(I) Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?^{(J) 37} Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father.^{(K) 38} But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”^(L)
