¹⁵ For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people^(A) with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. ¹⁶ But I have raised you up^[a] for this very purpose,^(B) that I might show you my power^(C) and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

⁴ And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart,^(A) and he will pursue them.^(B) But I will gain glory^(C) for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.”^(D) So the Israelites did this.
