The New Stone Tablets

34 The Lord said to Moses, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones,^(A) and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets,^(B) which you broke.^(C)

⁴ So Moses chiseled^(A) out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning, as the Lord had commanded him; and he carried the two stone tablets in his hands.^(B)

³¹ For the Lord your God is a merciful^(A) God; he will not abandon^(B) or destroy^(C) you or forget^(D) the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.

² I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Then you are to put them in the ark.”^(A)

⁴ The Lord wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments^(A) he had proclaimed^(B) to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly.^(C) And the Lord gave them to me.
