²¹ And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the ^(A)miracles that I have put in your power. But ^(B)I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go. ²² Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, ^(C)Israel is my ^(D)firstborn son, ²³ and I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” If you refuse to let him go, behold, I ^(E)will kill your firstborn son.’”

¹² The Lord said to Moses, ^(A)“Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the ^(B)tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.” ¹³ So Moses rose with his assistant ^(C)Joshua, and Moses went up ^(D)into the mountain of God. ¹⁴ And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and ^(E)Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.”

¹⁵ Then Moses went up on the mountain, and ^(F)the cloud covered the mountain. ^16 (G)The glory of the Lord dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. ¹⁷ Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a ^(H)devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. ¹⁸ Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses ^(I)was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

³⁴ Whenever Moses ^(A)went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, ³⁵ the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face was ^(B)shining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
