32 [a]Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. 33 (A)If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.” 34 They answered him, “(B)You were born entirely in sins, and yet you are teaching us?” So they [b](C)put him out.

Jesus Affirms His Deity

35 Jesus heard that they had [c](D)put him out, and upon finding him, He said, “Do you believe in the (E)Son of Man?” 36 He answered [d]by saying, “And (F)who is He, [e]Sir, that I may believe in Him?” 37 Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him, and (G)He is the one who is talking with you.” 38 And he said, “I believe, Lord.” And he (H)worshiped Him. 39 And Jesus said, (I)For judgment I came into this world, so that (J)those who do not see may see, and (K)those who see may become blind.” 40 Those who were with Him from the Pharisees heard these things and said to Him, “(L)We are not blind too, are we?” 41 Jesus said to them, (M)If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now that you maintain, ‘(N)We see,’ your sin remains.

34 To this they replied, “You were steeped in sin at birth;(B) how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out.(C)

Spiritual Blindness

35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe(D) in the Son of Man?”(E)

36 “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.”(F)

37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”(G)

38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.(H)

39 Jesus said,[a] “For judgment(I) I have come into this world,(J) so that the blind will see(K) and those who see will become blind.”(L)

40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”(M)

41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.(N)
