²³ If you do mistreat them, and they ^(A)cry out to me, I will surely ^(B)hear their cry, ²⁴ and my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and ^(C)your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.

⁹ And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, ^(A)it is a stiff-necked people. ¹⁰ Now therefore ^(B)let me alone, that ^(C)my wrath may burn hot against them and ^(D)I may consume them, in order that ^(E)I may make a great nation of you.”

³² And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and ^(A)all the people who belonged to Korah and all their goods. ³³ So they and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed over them, and ^(B)they perished from the midst of the assembly. ³⁴ And all Israel who were around them fled at their cry, for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us up!” ³⁵ And ^(C)fire came out from the Lord and consumed ^(D)the 250 men offering the incense.

^36 [a] Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

¹¹ “Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the people of Israel, in that he ^(A)was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the people of Israel in ^(B)my jealousy.

⁷ Remember and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. ^(A)From the day you came out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord. ⁸ Even ^(B)at Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, and the Lord was so angry with you that he was ready to destroy you.

^20 (A)Did not Achan the son of Zerah break faith in the matter of the devoted things, and ^(B)wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone for his iniquity.’”

¹³ “Go, inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found. For great is ^(A)the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”

⁵ But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are ^(A)storing up ^(B)wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.
