Bezalel and Oholiab^(A)

³⁰ Then Moses said to the Israelites, “See, the Lord has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, ³¹ and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills^(B)— ³² to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, ³³ to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic crafts. ³⁴ And he has given both him and Oholiab^(C) son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach^(D) others. ³⁵ He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work^(E) as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers. 36 ¹ So Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person^(F) to whom the Lord has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary^(G) are to do the work just as the Lord has commanded.”

² Then Moses summoned Bezalel^(H) and Oholiab^(I) and every skilled person to whom the Lord had given ability and who was willing^(J) to come and do the work. ³ They received from Moses all the offerings^(K) the Israelites had brought to carry out the work of constructing the sanctuary. And the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning. ⁴ So all the skilled workers who were doing all the work on the sanctuary left what they were doing ⁵ and said to Moses, “The people are bringing more than enough^(L) for doing the work the Lord commanded to be done.”

⁶ Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: “No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” And so the people were restrained from bringing more, ⁷ because what they already had was more^(M) than enough to do all the work.

²³ For the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim^(A) out of olive wood, each ten cubits high. ²⁴ One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing five cubits—ten cubits from wing tip to wing tip. ²⁵ The second cherub also measured ten cubits, for the two cherubim were identical in size and shape. ²⁶ The height of each cherub was ten cubits. ²⁷ He placed the cherubim^(B) inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room. ²⁸ He overlaid the cherubim with gold.

²⁹ On the walls^(C) all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim,^(D) palm trees and open flowers. ³⁰ He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold.

³¹ For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors out of olive wood that were one fifth of the width of the sanctuary. ³² And on the two olive-wood doors^(E) he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with hammered gold. ³³ In the same way, for the entrance to the main hall he made doorframes out of olive wood that were one fourth of the width of the hall. ³⁴ He also made two doors out of juniper wood, each having two leaves that turned in sockets. ³⁵ He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid them with gold hammered evenly over the carvings.

³⁶ And he built the inner courtyard^(F) of three courses^(G) of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams.

³⁷ The foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv. ³⁸ In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details^(H) according to its specifications.^(I) He had spent seven years building it.

¹³ This is the message the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon^(A) to attack Egypt:^(B)

²⁵ The Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “I am about to bring punishment on Amon god of Thebes,^(AB) on Pharaoh,^(AC) on Egypt and her gods^(AD) and her kings, and on those who rely^(AE) on Pharaoh. ²⁶ I will give them into the hands^(AF) of those who want to kill them—Nebuchadnezzar king^(AG) of Babylon and his officers. Later, however, Egypt will be inhabited^(AH) as in times past,” declares the Lord.

Jesus Before the Sanhedrin^(A)(B)

⁵³ They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the law came together. ⁵⁴ Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest.^(C) There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.^(D)

⁵⁵ The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin^(E) were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any. ⁵⁶ Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.

⁵⁷ Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: ⁵⁸ “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another,^(F) not made with hands.’” ⁵⁹ Yet even then their testimony did not agree.

⁶⁰ Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” ⁶¹ But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.^(G)

Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”^(H)

⁶² “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”^(I)

⁶³ The high priest tore his clothes.^(J) “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. ⁶⁴ “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?”

They all condemned him as worthy of death.^{(K) 65} Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.^(L)

²² This is why I have often been hindered from coming to you.^(A)

Paul’s Plan to Visit Rome

²³ But now that there is no more place for me to work in these regions, and since I have been longing for many years to visit you,^{(B) 24} I plan to do so when I go to Spain.^(C) I hope to see you while passing through and to have you assist^(D) me on my journey there, after I have enjoyed your company for a while. ²⁵ Now, however, I am on my way to Jerusalem^(E) in the service^(F) of the Lord’s people^(G) there. ²⁶ For Macedonia^(H) and Achaia^(I) were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the Lord’s people in Jerusalem.^{(J) 27} They were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews’ spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings.^{(K) 28} So after I have completed this task and have made sure that they have received this contribution, I will go to Spain^(L) and visit you on the way. ²⁹ I know that when I come to you,^(M) I will come in the full measure of the blessing of Christ.

³⁰ I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit,^(N) to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.^{(O) 31} Pray that I may be kept safe^(P) from the unbelievers in Judea and that the contribution^(Q) I take to Jerusalem may be favorably received by the Lord’s people^(R) there, ³² so that I may come to you^(S) with joy, by God’s will,^(T) and in your company be refreshed.^{(U) 33} The God of peace^(V) be with you all. Amen.
