In him we have redemption(A) through his blood,(B) the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches(C) of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he[a] made known to us the mystery(D) of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed(E) in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment(F)—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.(G)

11 In him we were also chosen,[b] having been predestined(H) according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose(I) of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.(J) 13 And you also were included in Christ(K) when you heard the message of truth,(L) the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal,(M) the promised Holy Spirit,(N) 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance(O) until the redemption(P) of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.(Q)

The Supremacy of the Son of God

15 The Son is the image(I) of the invisible God,(J) the firstborn(K) over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created:(L) things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;(M) all things have been created through him and for him.(N) 17 He is before all things,(O) and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head(P) of the body, the church;(Q) he is the beginning and the firstborn(R) from among the dead,(S) so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

The Blood of Christ

11 But when Christ came as high priest(A) of the good things that are now already here,[a](B) he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle(C) that is not made with human hands,(D) that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves;(E) but he entered the Most Holy Place(F) once for all(G) by his own blood,(H) thus obtaining[b] eternal redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls(I) and the ashes of a heifer(J) sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit(K) offered himself(L) unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences(M) from acts that lead to death,[c](N) so that we may serve the living God!(O)

15 For this reason Christ is the mediator(P) of a new covenant,(Q) that those who are called(R) may receive the promised(S) eternal inheritance(T)—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.(U)
