¹³ In Him you also trusted, after you heard ^(A)the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, ^(B)you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

¹² But ^(A)as many as received Him, to them He gave the ^[a]right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: ^13 (B)who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

¹⁸ Therefore, as through ^[a]one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through ^(A)one^[b] Man’s righteous act the free gift came ^(B)to all men, resulting in justification of life.

Life and Judgment Are Through the Son

²⁴ “Most assuredly, I say to you, ^(A)he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, ^(B)but has passed from death into life. ²⁵ Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when ^(C)the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. ²⁶ For ^(D)as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have ^(E)life in Himself, ²⁷ and ^(F)has given Him authority to execute judgment also, ^(G)because He is the Son of Man. ²⁸ Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will ^(H)hear His voice

² Certainly not! How shall we who ^(A)died to sin live any longer in it? ³ Or do you not know that ^(B)as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus ^(C)were baptized into His death? ⁴ Therefore we were ^(D)buried with Him through baptism into death, that ^(E)just as Christ was raised from the dead by ^(F)the glory of the Father, ^(G)even so we also should walk in newness of life.

^5 (H)For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, ⁶ knowing this, that ^(I)our old man was crucified with Him, that ^(J)the body of sin might be ^[a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

Free from Indwelling Sin

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, ^(A)who^[a] do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. ² For ^(B)the law of ^(C)the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from ^(D)the law of sin and death. ³ For ^(E)what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, ^(F)God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, ⁴ that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who ^(G)do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

² This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, ^(A)or by the hearing of faith?

¹⁸ But we all, with unveiled face, beholding ^(A)as in a mirror ^(B)the glory of the Lord, ^(C)are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as ^[a]by the Spirit of the Lord.
