¹¹ So Christ himself gave^(A) the apostles,^(B) the prophets,^(C) the evangelists,^(D) the pastors and teachers,^{(E) 12} to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ^(F) may be built up^(G)

²³ Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival,^(A) many people saw the signs^(B) he was performing and believed^(C) in his name.^[a]

³⁰ Even as he spoke, many believed in him.^(A)

¹⁷ The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?”^(A) He said, “Lord, you know all things;^(B) you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.^(C)

⁴⁰ With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”^{(A) 41} Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number^(B) that day.

⁴ But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew^(A) to about five thousand.

¹⁴ Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number.^(A)

¹² But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God^(A) and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized,^(B) both men and women.

²⁸ One of them, named Agabus,^(A) stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world.^(B) (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)^(C)
