Unity of the Spirit

4 Therefore I, ^(A)the prisoner of the Lord, ^(B)urge you to ^(C)walk in a manner worthy of the ^(D)calling with which you have been ^(E)called, ²with all ^(F)humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another ^(G)in love, ³being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the ^(H)bond of peace. ⁴There is ^(I)one body and one Spirit, just as you also were called in one ^(J)hope of your calling; ⁵^(K)one Lord, one faith, one baptism, ⁶one God and Father of all ^(L)who is over all and through all and in all.

⁷But ^(M)to each one of us ^(N)grace was given ^(O)according to the measure of Christ’s gift. ⁸Therefore ^[a]it says,

“^(P)When He ascended on high,
He ^(Q)led captive the captives,
And He gave gifts to people.”

⁹(Now this expression, “He ^(R)ascended,” what ^[b]does it mean except that He also ^[c]had descended into ^(S)the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰He who descended is Himself also He who ascended ^(T)far above all the heavens, so that He might ^(U)fill all things.) ¹¹And He ^(V)gave ^(W)some as apostles, some as prophets, some as ^(X)evangelists, some as ^[d]pastors and ^(Y)teachers, ¹²^(Z)for the equipping of the ^[e]saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of ^(AA)the body of Christ; ¹³until we all attain to ^(AB)the unity of the faith, and of the ^[f]^(AC)knowledge of the Son of God, to a ^(AD)mature man, to the measure of the stature ^[g]which belongs to the ^(AE)fullness of Christ. ¹⁴^[h]As a result, we are ^(AF)no longer to be children, ^(AG)tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of people, by ^(AH)craftiness ^[i]in ^(AI)deceitful scheming; ¹⁵but ^[j]speaking the truth ^(AJ)in love, ^[k]we are to ^(AK)grow up in all aspects into Him who is the ^(AL)head, that is, Christ, ¹⁶from whom ^(AM)the whole body, being fitted and held together ^[l]by what every joint supplies, according to the ^[m]proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself ^(AN)in love.

The Christian’s Walk

¹⁷^(AO)So I say this, and affirm in the Lord, ^(AP)that you are to no longer walk just as the ^[n]Gentiles also walk, in the ^(AQ)futility of their minds, ¹⁸being ^(AR)darkened in their understanding, ^[o]^(AS)excluded from the life of God because of the ^(AT)ignorance that is in them, because of the ^(AU)hardness of their heart; ¹⁹and they, having ^(AV)become callous, ^(AW)have given themselves up to ^(AX)indecent behavior ^[p]for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. ²⁰But you did not ^(AY)learn Christ in this way, ²¹if indeed you ^(AZ)have heard Him and have ^(BA)been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, ²²that, in reference to your former way of life, you are to ^(BB)rid yourselves of the ^(BC)old ^[q]self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the ^(BD)lusts of deceit, ²³and that you are to be ^(BE)renewed in the spirit of your minds, ²⁴and to ^(BF)put on the ^(BG)new ^[r]self, which ^[s]^(BH)in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

²⁵Therefore, ^(BI)ridding yourselves of falsehood, ^(BJ)speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, because we are ^(BK)parts of one another. ²⁶^(BL)Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, ²⁷and do not ^(BM)give the devil ^[t]an opportunity. ²⁸The one who steals must no longer steal; but rather ^(BN)he must labor, ^(BO)producing with his own hands what is good, ^(BP)so that he will have something to share with the one who has need. ²⁹Let no ^[u]^(BQ)unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but if there is any good word for ^(BR)edification ^[v]according to the need of the moment, say that, so that it will give grace to those who hear. ³⁰^(BS)Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, ^[w]by whom you were ^(BT)sealed for the day of redemption. ³¹^(BU)All bitterness, wrath, anger, ^[x]clamor, and slander must be ^(BV)removed from you, along with all ^(BW)malice. ³²^(BX)Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each other, ^(BY)just as God in Christ also has forgiven ^[y]you.

The God of Sinai and of the Sanctuary.

68 ^[a]May ^(A)God arise, ^[b]may His enemies be scattered,
And ^[c]may those who hate Him flee from His presence.
²As ^(B)smoke is driven away, so drive them away;
As ^(C)wax melts before a fire,
So the ^(D)wicked will perish before God.
³But the ^(E)righteous will be joyful; they will rejoice before God;
Yes, they will rejoice with gladness.
⁴Sing to God, ^(F)sing praises to His name;
^[d]^(G)Exalt Him who ^(H)rides through the deserts,
Whose ^(I)name is ^[e]the Lord, and be jubilant before Him.

⁵A ^(J)father of the fatherless and a ^(K)judge ^[f]for the widows,
Is God in His ^(L)holy dwelling.
⁶God ^[g]^(M)makes a home for the lonely;
He ^(N)leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only ^(O)the rebellious live in parched lands.

⁷God, when You ^(P)went forth before Your people,
When You ^(Q)marched through the desert, Selah
⁸The ^(R)earth quaked;
The ^(S)heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God;
^[h]^(T)Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
⁹You ^(U)made plentiful rain fall, God;
You confirmed Your inheritance when it was ^[i]parched.
¹⁰Your creatures settled in it;
In Your kindness You ^(V)provided for the poor, God.

¹¹The Lord gives the ^[j]command;
The ^(W)women who proclaim good news are a great army:
¹²“^(X)Kings of armies flee, they flee,
And she who remains at home will ^(Y)divide the spoils!”
¹³^[k]When you lie down ^(Z)among the sheepfolds,
You are like the wings of a dove covered with silver,
And its pinions with ^[l]glistening gold.
¹⁴When the Almighty ^(AA)scattered the kings ^[m]there,
It was snowing in ^(AB)Zalmon.

¹⁵^(AC)The mountain of Bashan is a ^[n]mountain of God;
The mountain of Bashan is a mountain of many peaks.
¹⁶Why do you look with envy, you mountains of many peaks,
At the mountain God has ^(AD)desired as His dwelling?
Indeed, ^(AE)the Lord will dwell there forever.
¹⁷The ^(AF)chariots of God are ^[o]myriads, ^(AG)thousands upon thousands;
^[p]The Lord is among them as at Sinai, in holiness.
¹⁸You have ^(AH)ascended on high, You have ^(AI)led captive Your captives;
You have received gifts among people,
Even among the rebellious as well, that ^[q]the Lord God may dwell there.

¹⁹Blessed be the Lord, who daily ^(AJ)bears our burden,
^(AK)The God who is our salvation. Selah
²⁰God is to us a ^(AL)God of salvation;
And ^(AM)to ^[r]God the Lord belong ways of escape ^[s]from death.
²¹God certainly will ^(AN)shatter the heads of His enemies,
The hairy ^[t]head of one who goes about in his guilt.
²²The Lord ^[u]said, “^(AO)I will bring them back from Bashan.
I will bring them back from the depths of the sea,
²³So that ^[v]^(AP)your foot may shatter them in blood,
And the tongue of your ^(AQ)dogs may have its portion from your enemies.”

²⁴They have seen ^(AR)Your procession, God,
The procession of my God, my King, ^[w]^(AS)into the sanctuary.
²⁵The ^(AT)singers went on, the musicians after them,
^[x]In the midst of the ^(AU)young women beating tambourines.
²⁶^(AV)Bless God in the congregations,
Even the Lord, you who are of the ^(AW)fountain of Israel.
²⁷^(AX)Benjamin, the ^[y]youngest, is there, ^[z]ruling them,
The leaders of Judah in their company,
The leaders of ^(AY)Zebulun, the leaders of Naphtali.

²⁸^[aa]Your God has ^(AZ)commanded your strength;
Show Yourself strong, God, You ^(BA)who acted ^[ab]in our behalf.
²⁹^[ac]Because of Your temple at Jerusalem
^(BB)Kings will bring gifts to You.
³⁰Rebuke the ^(BC)animals ^[ad]in the reeds,
The herd of ^(BD)bulls with the calves of the peoples,
Trampling the pieces of silver;
He has ^(BE)scattered the peoples who delight in war.
³¹^[ae]Messengers will come from ^(BF)Egypt;
^[af]^(BG)Cush will quickly stretch out her hands to God.

³²Sing to God, you ^(BH)kingdoms of the earth,
^(BI)Sing praises to the Lord, Selah
³³To Him who ^(BJ)rides upon the ^[ag]^(BK)highest heavens, which are from ancient times;
Behold, ^(BL)He ^[ah]speaks with His voice, a ^(BM)mighty voice.
³⁴^(BN)Ascribe strength to God;
His majesty is over Israel,
And ^(BO)His strength is in the ^[ai]skies.
³⁵^[aj]God, You are ^(BP)awesome from Your ^[ak]sanctuary.
The God of Israel Himself ^(BQ)gives strength and power to the people.
