26 (A)“Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: 27 (B)the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today; 28 and the (C)curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known. 29 Now it shall be, when the Lord your God has brought you into the land which you go to possess, that you shall put the (D)blessing on Mount Gerizim and the (E)curse on Mount Ebal. 30 Are they not on the other side of the Jordan, toward the setting sun, in the land of the Canaanites who dwell in the plain opposite Gilgal, (F)beside the terebinth trees of Moreh? 31 For you will cross over the Jordan and go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you, and you will possess it and dwell in it. 32 And you shall be careful to observe all the statutes and judgments which I set before you today.

A Prescribed Place of Worship

12 “These (G)are the statutes and judgments which you shall be careful to observe in the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you to possess, (H)all[a] the days that you live on the earth. (I)You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations which you shall dispossess served their gods, (J)on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree.

Footnotes

  1. Deuteronomy 12:1 As long as

18 To whom then will you (A)liken God?
Or what likeness will you compare to Him?
19 (B)The workman molds an image,
The goldsmith overspreads it with gold,
And the silversmith casts silver chains.
20 Whoever is too impoverished for such [a]a contribution
Chooses a tree that will not rot;
He seeks for himself a skillful workman
(C)To prepare a carved image that will not totter.

21 (D)Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,
And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,
Who (E)stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
And spreads them out like a (F)tent to dwell in.
23 He [b]brings the (G)princes to nothing;
He makes the judges of the earth useless.

24 Scarcely shall they be planted,
Scarcely shall they be sown,
Scarcely shall their stock take root in the earth,
When He will also blow on them,
And they will wither,
And the whirlwind will take them away like stubble.

25 “To(H) whom then will you liken Me,
Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on high,
And see who has created these things,
Who brings out their host by number;
(I)He calls them all by name,
By the greatness of His might
And the strength of His power;
Not one is missing.

27 (J)Why do you say, O Jacob,
And speak, O Israel:
“My way is hidden from the Lord,
And my just claim is passed over by my God”?
28 Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
(K)His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
31 But those who (L)wait on the Lord
(M)Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

Israel Assured of God’s Help

41 “Keep (N)silence before Me, O coastlands,
And let the people renew their strength!
Let them come near, then let them speak;
Let us (O)come near together for judgment.

“Who raised up one (P)from the east?
Who in righteousness called him to His feet?
Who (Q)gave the nations before him,
And made him rule over kings?
Who gave them as the dust to his sword,
As driven stubble to his bow?
Who pursued them, and passed [c]safely
By the way that he had not gone with his feet?
(R)Who has performed and done it,
Calling the generations from the beginning?
‘I, the Lord, am (S)the first;
And with the last I am (T)He.’ ”

The coastlands saw it and feared,
The ends of the earth were afraid;
They drew near and came.
(U)Everyone helped his neighbor,
And said to his brother,
[d]“Be of good courage!”
(V)So the craftsman encouraged the (W)goldsmith;[e]
He who smooths with the hammer inspired him who strikes the anvil,
Saying, [f]“It is ready for the soldering”;
Then he fastened it with pegs,
(X)That it might not totter.

“But you, Israel, are My servant,
Jacob whom I have (Y)chosen,
The descendants of Abraham My (Z)friend.

Walking in the Spirit

16 I say then: (A)Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For (B)the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, (C)so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But (D)if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 Now (E)the works of the flesh are evident, which are: [a]adultery, [b]fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, [c]murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that (F)those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But (G)the fruit of the Spirit is (H)love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, (I)goodness, (J)faithfulness, 23 [d]gentleness, self-control. (K)Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s (L)have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 (M)If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 (N)Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Bear and Share Burdens

Brethren, if a man is [e]overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of (O)gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers Send for Him(A)

46 While He was still talking to the multitudes, (B)behold, His mother and (C)brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. 47 Then one said to Him, “Look, (D)Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.”

48 But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” 49 And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My (E)brothers! 50 For (F)whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”

The Parable of the Sower(G)

13 On the same day Jesus went out of the house (H)and sat by the sea.
