Then (A)Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, (B)“Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall put them in possession of it. It is the Lord (C)who goes before you. He will be with you; (D)he will not leave you or forsake you. (E)Do not fear or be dismayed.”

The Reading of the Law

Then Moses (F)wrote this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, (G)who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel. 10 And Moses commanded them, (H)“At the end of every seven years, at the set time in the year of release, at (I)the Feast of Booths, 11 when all Israel comes (J)to appear before the Lord your God at the place that he will choose, (K)you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. 12 (L)Assemble the people, men, women, and little ones, and the sojourner within your towns, that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law, 13 and that their children, (M)who have not known it, (N)may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, (O)as long as you live in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.”

24 When Moses had finished (A)writing the words of this law in a book to the very end, 25 Moses commanded (B)the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, 26 “Take this Book of the Law (C)and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for (D)a witness against you. 27 For I know how rebellious and (E)stubborn you are. Behold, even today while I am yet alive with you, (F)you have been rebellious against the Lord. How much more after my death! 28 Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officers, that I may speak (G)these words in their ears and (H)call heaven and earth to witness against them. 29 For I know that after my death (I)you will surely act corruptly and turn aside from the way that I have commanded you. And (J)in the days to come (K)evil will befall you, because you will do what is evil in the sight of the Lord, (L)provoking him to anger through the work of your hands.”

The Song of Moses

30 Then Moses spoke the words of this song until they were finished, in the ears of all the assembly of Israel:

32 “Give ear, (M)O heavens, and I will speak,
and let (N)the earth hear the words of my mouth.
May (O)my teaching drop as the rain,
my speech distill as the dew,
like gentle rain upon the tender grass,
and (P)like showers upon the herb.
For I will proclaim the name of the Lord;
    ascribe (Q)greatness to our God!

(R)“The Rock, (S)his work is perfect,
for (T)all his ways are justice.
A God of faithfulness and (U)without iniquity,
    just and upright is he.

10 Brothers,[a] my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that (A)they have a zeal for God, (B)but not according to knowledge. For, being ignorant of (C)the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. For (D)Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.[b]

The Message of Salvation to All

For (E)Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that (F)the person who does the commandments shall live by them. But (G)the righteousness based on faith says, (H)“Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) “or ‘Who will descend into the (I)abyss?’” (that is, (J)to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? (K)“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if (L)you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and (M)believe in your heart (N)that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, (O)“Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 (P)For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; (Q)for the same Lord is Lord of all, (R)bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For (S)“everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

The Abomination of Desolation

15 “So when you see the abomination of desolation (A)spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in (B)the holy place ((C)let the reader understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 (D)Let the one who is on (E)the housetop not go down to take what is in his house, 18 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 19 And (F)alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 20 Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. 21 For then there will be (G)great tribulation, (H)such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. 22 And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for (I)the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. 23 (J)Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For (K)false christs and (L)false prophets will arise and (M)perform great signs and wonders, (N)so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, (O)I have told you beforehand. 26 So, if they say to you, ‘Look, (P)he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 (Q)For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be (R)the coming of the Son of Man. 28 (S)Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

The Coming of the Son of Man

29 “Immediately after (T)the tribulation of those days (U)the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and (V)the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then (W)will appear in heaven (X)the sign of the Son of Man, and then (Y)all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and (Z)they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven (AA)with power and great glory. 31 And (AB)he will send out his angels with a loud (AC)trumpet call, and they will (AD)gather (AE)his elect from (AF)the four winds, (AG)from one end of heaven to the other.
