18 “And I commanded you at that time, saying, ‘The Lord your God has given you this land to possess. (A)All your men of valor shall cross over armed before your brothers, the people of Israel. 19 Only your wives, your little ones, and your livestock (B)(I know that you have much livestock) shall remain in the cities that I have given you, 20 (C)until the Lord gives rest to your brothers, as to you, and they also occupy the land that the Lord your God gives them beyond the Jordan. Then each of you may return to his possession which I have given you.’ 21 And I commanded (D)Joshua at that time, ‘Your eyes have seen all that the Lord your God has done to these two kings. So will the Lord do to all the kingdoms into which you are crossing. 22 You shall not fear them, for it is (E)the Lord your God who fights for you.’

Moses Forbidden to Enter the Land

23 “And I pleaded with the Lord at that time, saying, 24 ‘O Lord God, you have only begun to show your servant (F)your greatness and your mighty hand. For (G)what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as yours? 25 Please let me go over and see (H)the good land beyond the Jordan, that good hill country and (I)Lebanon.’ 26 But (J)the Lord was angry with me because of you and would not listen to me. And the Lord said to me, (K)‘Enough from you; do not speak to me of this matter again. 27 (L)Go up to the top of Pisgah and lift up your eyes westward and northward and southward and eastward, and look at it with your eyes, for you shall not go over this Jordan. 28 But (M)charge Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he shall go over at the head of this people, and he shall put them in possession of the land that you shall see.’

19 You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For (A)who can resist his will?” 20 But who are you, O man, (B)to answer back to God? (C)Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 (D)Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump (E)one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? 22 What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience (F)vessels of wrath (G)prepared for destruction, 23 in order to make known (H)the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he (I)has prepared beforehand for glory— 24 even us whom he (J)has called, (K)not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles? 25 As indeed he says in Hosea,

(L)“Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’
and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’”
26 (M)“And in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’
there they will be called (N)‘sons of the living God.’”

27 And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: (O)“Though the number of the sons of Israel[a] be as the sand of the sea, (P)only a remnant of them will be saved, 28 for the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the earth fully and without delay.” 29 And as Isaiah predicted,

(Q)(R)“If the Lord of hosts had not left us offspring,
(S)we would have been like Sodom
    and become like Gomorrah.”

Israel's Unbelief

30 What shall we say, then? (T)That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, (U)a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but that Israel (V)who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness[b] (W)did not succeed in reaching that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the (X)stumbling stone, 33 as it is written,

(Y)“Behold, I am laying in Zion (Z)a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense;
(AA)and whoever believes in him will not be (AB)put to shame.”

Jesus Foretells Destruction of the Temple

24 (A)Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, (B)there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”

Signs of the End of the Age

As he sat on (C)the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him (D)privately, saying, “Tell us, (E)when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your (F)coming and of (G)the end of the age?” And Jesus answered them, (H)“See that no one leads you astray. For (I)many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am (J)the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you (K)are not alarmed, for this (L)must take place, but the end is not yet. For (M)nation will rise against nation, and (N)kingdom against kingdom, and there will be (O)famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of (P)the birth pains.

“Then (Q)they will deliver you up (R)to tribulation and (S)put you to death, and (T)you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then many will fall away[a] and (U)betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many (V)false prophets will arise (W)and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, (X)the love of many will grow cold. 13 (Y)But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom (Z)will be proclaimed throughout the whole world (AA)as a testimony (AB)to all nations, and (AC)then the end will come.
