23 (A)his body is not to be left overnight on the [a]tree, but you shall certainly bury him on the same day (for (B)he who is hanged is cursed of God), so that you (C)do not defile your land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.

23 (A) you must not leave it there overnight. Bury it the same day, because the dead body of a criminal hanging on a tree will bring God's curse on the land. The Lord your God is giving this land to you, so don't make it unclean by leaving the bodies of executed criminals on display.

22-23 When a man has committed a capital crime, been given the death sentence, executed and hung from a tree, don’t leave his dead body hanging overnight from the tree. Give him a decent burial that same day so that you don’t desecrate your God-given land—a hanged man is an insult to God.
