Visión de Daniel junto al río

10 En el año tercero de Ciro rey de Persia fue revelada palabra a Daniel, llamado Beltsasar; y la palabra era verdadera, y el conflicto grande; pero él comprendió la palabra, y tuvo inteligencia en la visión.

2 En aquellos días yo Daniel estuve afligido por espacio de tres semanas. 3 No comí manjar delicado, ni entró en mi boca carne ni vino, ni me ungí con ungüento, hasta que se cumplieron las tres semanas. 4 Y el día veinticuatro del mes primero estaba yo a la orilla del gran río Hidekel. 5 Y alcé mis ojos y miré, y he aquí un varón vestido de lino,(A) y ceñidos sus lomos de oro de Ufaz. 6 Su cuerpo era como de berilo, y su rostro parecía un relámpago, y sus ojos como antorchas de fuego, y sus brazos y sus pies como de color de bronce bruñido, y el sonido de sus palabras como el estruendo de una multitud. 7 Y sólo yo, Daniel, vi aquella visión, y no la vieron los hombres que estaban conmigo, sino que se apoderó de ellos un gran temor, y huyeron y se escondieron. 8 Quedé, pues, yo solo, y vi esta gran visión, y no quedó fuerza en mí, antes mi fuerza se cambió en desfallecimiento, y no tuve vigor alguno. 9 Pero oí el sonido de sus palabras; y al oír el sonido de sus palabras, caí sobre mi rostro en un profundo sueño, con mi rostro en tierra.

10 Y he aquí una mano me tocó, e hizo que me pusiese sobre mis rodillas y sobre las palmas de mis manos. 11 Y me dijo: Daniel, varón muy amado, está atento a las palabras que te hablaré, y ponte en pie; porque a ti he sido enviado ahora. Mientras hablaba esto conmigo, me puse en pie temblando. 12 Entonces me dijo: Daniel, no temas; porque desde el primer día que dispusiste tu corazón a entender y a humillarte en la presencia de tu Dios, fueron oídas tus palabras; y a causa de tus palabras yo he venido. 13 Mas el príncipe del reino de Persia se me opuso durante veintiún días; pero he aquí Miguel,(B) uno de los principales príncipes, vino para ayudarme, y quedé allí con los reyes de Persia. 14 He venido para hacerte saber lo que ha de venir a tu pueblo en los postreros días; porque la visión es para esos días.

15 Mientras me decía estas palabras, estaba yo con los ojos puestos en tierra, y enmudecido. 16 Pero he aquí, uno con semejanza de hijo de hombre tocó mis labios. Entonces abrí mi boca y hablé, y dije al que estaba delante de mí: Señor mío, con la visión me han sobrevenido dolores, y no me queda fuerza. 17 ¿Cómo, pues, podrá el siervo de mi señor hablar con mi señor? Porque al instante me faltó la fuerza, y no me quedó aliento.

18 Y aquel que tenía semejanza de hombre me tocó otra vez, y me fortaleció, 19 y me dijo: Muy amado, no temas; la paz sea contigo; esfuérzate y aliéntate. Y mientras él me hablaba, recobré las fuerzas, y dije: Hable mi señor, porque me has fortalecido. 20 Él me dijo: ¿Sabes por qué he venido a ti? Pues ahora tengo que volver para pelear contra el príncipe de Persia; y al terminar con él, el príncipe de Grecia vendrá. 21 Pero yo te declararé lo que está escrito en el libro de la verdad; y ninguno me ayuda contra ellos, sino Miguel(C) vuestro príncipe.

11 Y yo mismo, en el año primero de Darío el medo, estuve para animarlo y fortalecerlo.

Los reyes del norte y del sur

2 Y ahora yo te mostraré la verdad. He aquí que aún habrá tres reyes en Persia, y el cuarto se hará de grandes riquezas más que todos ellos; y al hacerse fuerte con sus riquezas, levantará a todos contra el reino de Grecia. 3 Se levantará luego un rey valiente, el cual dominará con gran poder y hará su voluntad. 4 Pero cuando se haya levantado, su reino será quebrantado y repartido hacia los cuatro vientos del cielo; no a sus descendientes, ni según el dominio con que él dominó; porque su reino será arrancado, y será para otros fuera de ellos.

5 Y se hará fuerte el rey del sur; mas uno de sus príncipes será más fuerte que él, y se hará poderoso; su dominio será grande. 6 Al cabo de años harán alianza, y la hija del rey del sur vendrá al rey del norte para hacer la paz. Pero ella no podrá retener la fuerza de su brazo, ni permanecerá él, ni su brazo; porque será entregada ella y los que la habían traído, asimismo su hijo, y los que estaban de parte de ella en aquel tiempo.

7 Pero un renuevo de sus raíces se levantará sobre su trono, y vendrá con ejército contra el rey del norte, y entrará en la fortaleza, y hará en ellos a su arbitrio, y predominará. 8 Y aun a los dioses de ellos, sus imágenes fundidas y sus objetos preciosos de plata y de oro, llevará cautivos a Egipto; y por años se mantendrá él contra el rey del norte. 9 Así entrará en el reino el rey del sur, y volverá a su tierra.

10 Mas los hijos de aquel se airarán, y reunirán multitud de grandes ejércitos; y vendrá apresuradamente e inundará, y pasará adelante; luego volverá y llevará la guerra hasta su fortaleza. 11 Por lo cual se enfurecerá el rey del sur, y saldrá y peleará contra el rey del norte; y pondrá en campaña multitud grande, y toda aquella multitud será entregada en su mano. 12 Y al llevarse él la multitud, se elevará su corazón, y derribará a muchos millares; mas no prevalecerá. 13 Y el rey del norte volverá a poner en campaña una multitud mayor que la primera, y al cabo de algunos años vendrá apresuradamente con gran ejército y con muchas riquezas.

14 En aquellos tiempos se levantarán muchos contra el rey del sur; y hombres turbulentos de tu pueblo se levantarán para cumplir la visión, pero ellos caerán. 15 Vendrá, pues, el rey del norte, y levantará baluartes, y tomará la ciudad fuerte; y las fuerzas del sur no podrán sostenerse, ni sus tropas escogidas, porque no habrá fuerzas para resistir. 16 Y el que vendrá contra él hará su voluntad, y no habrá quien se le pueda enfrentar; y estará en la tierra gloriosa, la cual será consumida en su poder. 17 Afirmará luego su rostro para venir con el poder de todo su reino; y hará con aquel convenios, y le dará una hija de mujeres para destruirle; pero no permanecerá, ni tendrá éxito. 18 Volverá después su rostro a las costas, y tomará muchas; mas un príncipe hará cesar su afrenta, y aun hará volver sobre él su oprobio. 19 Luego volverá su rostro a las fortalezas de su tierra; mas tropezará y caerá, y no será hallado.

20 Y se levantará en su lugar uno que hará pasar un cobrador de tributos por la gloria del reino; pero en pocos días será quebrantado, aunque no en ira, ni en batalla. 21 Y le sucederá en su lugar un hombre despreciable, al cual no darán la honra del reino; pero vendrá sin aviso y tomará el reino con halagos. 22 Las fuerzas enemigas serán barridas delante de él como con inundación de aguas; serán del todo destruidos, junto con el príncipe del pacto. 23 Y después del pacto con él, engañará y subirá, y saldrá vencedor con poca gente. 24 Estando la provincia en paz y en abundancia, entrará y hará lo que no hicieron sus padres, ni los padres de sus padres; botín, despojos y riquezas repartirá a sus soldados, y contra las fortalezas formará sus designios; y esto por un tiempo. 25 Y despertará sus fuerzas y su ardor contra el rey del sur con gran ejército; y el rey del sur se empeñará en la guerra con grande y muy fuerte ejército; mas no prevalecerá, porque le harán traición. 26 Aun los que coman de sus manjares le quebrantarán; y su ejército será destruido, y caerán muchos muertos. 27 El corazón de estos dos reyes será para hacer mal, y en una misma mesa hablarán mentira; mas no servirá de nada, porque el plazo aún no habrá llegado. 28 Y volverá a su tierra con gran riqueza, y su corazón será contra el pacto santo; hará su voluntad, y volverá a su tierra.

29 Al tiempo señalado volverá al sur; mas no será la postrera venida como la primera. 30 Porque vendrán contra él naves de Quitim, y él se contristará, y volverá, y se enojará contra el pacto santo, y hará según su voluntad; volverá, pues, y se entenderá con los que abandonen el santo pacto. 31 Y se levantarán de su parte tropas que profanarán el santuario y la fortaleza, y quitarán el continuo sacrificio, y pondrán la abominación desoladora.(D) 32 Con lisonjas seducirá a los violadores del pacto; mas el pueblo que conoce a su Dios se esforzará y actuará. 33 Y los sabios del pueblo instruirán a muchos; y por algunos días caerán a espada y a fuego, en cautividad y despojo. 34 Y en su caída serán ayudados de pequeño socorro; y muchos se juntarán a ellos con lisonjas. 35 También algunos de los sabios caerán para ser depurados y limpiados y emblanquecidos, hasta el tiempo determinado; porque aun para esto hay plazo.

36 Y el rey hará su voluntad, y se ensoberbecerá, y se engrandecerá sobre todo dios;(E) y contra el Dios de los dioses hablará maravillas,(F) y prosperará, hasta que sea consumada la ira; porque lo determinado se cumplirá. 37 Del Dios de sus padres no hará caso, ni del amor de las mujeres; ni respetará a dios alguno, porque sobre todo se engrandecerá. 38 Mas honrará en su lugar al dios de las fortalezas, dios que sus padres no conocieron; lo honrará con oro y plata, con piedras preciosas y con cosas de gran precio. 39 Con un dios ajeno se hará de las fortalezas más inexpugnables, y colmará de honores a los que le reconozcan, y por precio repartirá la tierra.

40 Pero al cabo del tiempo el rey del sur contenderá con él; y el rey del norte se levantará contra él como una tempestad, con carros y gente de a caballo, y muchas naves; y entrará por las tierras, e inundará, y pasará. 41 Entrará a la tierra gloriosa, y muchas provincias caerán; mas estas escaparán de su mano: Edom y Moab, y la mayoría de los hijos de Amón. 42 Extenderá su mano contra las tierras, y no escapará el país de Egipto. 43 Y se apoderará de los tesoros de oro y plata, y de todas las cosas preciosas de Egipto; y los de Libia y de Etiopía le seguirán. 44 Pero noticias del oriente y del norte lo atemorizarán, y saldrá con gran ira para destruir y matar a muchos. 45 Y plantará las tiendas de su palacio entre los mares y el monte glorioso y santo; mas llegará a su fin, y no tendrá quien le ayude.

El tiempo del fin

12 En aquel tiempo se levantará Miguel,(G) el gran príncipe que está de parte de los hijos de tu pueblo; y será tiempo de angustia, cual nunca fue desde que hubo gente hasta entonces;(H) pero en aquel tiempo será libertado tu pueblo, todos los que se hallen escritos en el libro. 2 Y muchos de los que duermen en el polvo de la tierra serán despertados, unos para vida eterna, y otros para vergüenza y confusión perpetua.(I) 3 Los entendidos resplandecerán como el resplandor del firmamento; y los que enseñan la justicia a la multitud, como las estrellas a perpetua eternidad. 4 Pero tú, Daniel, cierra las palabras y sella el libro(J) hasta el tiempo del fin. Muchos correrán de aquí para allá, y la ciencia se aumentará.

5 Y yo Daniel miré, y he aquí otros dos que estaban en pie, el uno a este lado del río, y el otro al otro lado del río. 6 Y dijo uno al varón vestido de lino, que estaba sobre las aguas del río: ¿Cuándo será el fin de estas maravillas? 7 Y oí al varón vestido de lino, que estaba sobre las aguas del río, el cual alzó su diestra y su siniestra al cielo, y juró por el que vive por los siglos,(K) que será por tiempo, tiempos, y la mitad de un tiempo.(L) Y cuando se acabe la dispersión del poder del pueblo santo, todas estas cosas serán cumplidas. 8 Y yo oí, mas no entendí. Y dije: Señor mío, ¿cuál será el fin de estas cosas? 9 Él respondió: Anda, Daniel, pues estas palabras están cerradas y selladas hasta el tiempo del fin. 10 Muchos serán limpios, y emblanquecidos y purificados; los impíos procederán impíamente,(M) y ninguno de los impíos entenderá, pero los entendidos comprenderán. 11 Y desde el tiempo que sea quitado el continuo sacrificio hasta la abominación desoladora,(N) habrá mil doscientos noventa días. 12 Bienaventurado el que espere, y llegue a mil trescientos treinta y cinco días. 13 Y tú irás hasta el fin, y reposarás, y te levantarás para recibir tu heredad al fin de los días.

Daniel Is Terrified by a Vision

10 In the third year of (A)Cyrus king of Persia, a [a]message was revealed to (B)Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar; and the [b](C)message was true and it concerned great [c]conflict, but he understood the [d]message and had an (D)understanding of the vision.

2 In those days, I, Daniel, had been (E)mourning for three [e]entire weeks. 3 I (F)did not eat any [f]tasty food, nor did meat or wine enter my mouth, nor did I use any ointment at all until the entire three weeks were completed. 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, while I was by the bank of the great (G)river, that is, the [g]Tigris, 5 I raised my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a man (H)dressed in linen, whose waist (I)had a belt of pure (J)gold of Uphaz. 6 His body also was like topaz, his face [h]had the appearance of lightning, (K)his eyes were like flaming torches, his arms and feet like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. 7 Now I, Daniel, (L)alone saw the vision, while the (M)men who were with me did not see the vision; nevertheless, a great (N)fear fell on them, and they ran away to hide themselves. 8 So I was (O)left alone and saw this great vision; yet (P)no strength was left in me, for my complexion turned to [i]a deathly pallor, and I retained no strength. 9 But I heard the sound of his words; and as soon as I heard the sound of his words, I (Q)fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.

Daniel Comforted

10 Then behold, a hand (R)touched me and shook me on my [j]hands and knees. 11 And he said to me, “(S)Daniel, [k]you who are treasured, (T)understand the words that I am about to tell you and (U)stand at your place, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up (V)trembling. 12 Then he said to me, “(W)Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on (X)humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come (Y)in response to your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was standing [l]in my way for twenty-one days; then behold, (Z)Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I have come to (AA)explain to you what will happen to your people in the [m](AB)latter days, because the vision pertains to (AC)the days still future.”

15 When he had spoken to me according to these words, I [n]turned my face toward the ground and became (AD)speechless. 16 And behold, [o](AE)one who resembled a human was (AF)touching my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke and said to him who was standing before me, “My lord, due to the vision [p](AG)anguish has come upon me, and I have retained no strength. 17 For (AH)how can such a servant of my lord talk with such as my lord? As for me, there remains just now (AI)no strength in me, nor has any breath been left in me.”

18 Then this one with human appearance touched me again and (AJ)strengthened me. 19 And he said, “[q]You who are treasured, (AK)do not be afraid. Peace be to you; take (AL)courage and be courageous!” Now as soon as he spoke to me, I felt strengthened and said, “May my lord speak, for you have (AM)strengthened me.” 20 Then he said, “Do you [r]understand why I came to you? But I shall now return to fight against the prince of Persia; so I am leaving, and behold, the (AN)prince of [s]Greece is about to come. 21 However, I will tell you what is recorded in the writing of (AO)truth. Yet there is no one who [t]stands firmly with me against these forces except (AP)Michael your prince.

Conflicts to Come

11 “In the (AQ)first year of Darius the Mede, [u]I arose to be of [v]assistance and a protection for him. 2 And now I will tell you the (AR)truth. Behold, three more kings are going to arise [w]in Persia. Then a fourth will gain far more riches than all of them; as soon as he becomes strong through his riches, [x]he will stir up the entire empire against the realm of [y](AS)Greece. 3 And a (AT)mighty king will arise, and he will rule with great authority and (AU)do as he pleases. 4 But as soon as he has arisen, his kingdom will be broken up and parceled out (AV)toward the (AW)four [z]points of the compass, though not to his own descendants, nor according to his authority which he wielded, because his sovereignty will be (AX)removed and given to others besides [aa]them.

5 “Then the (AY)king of the South will grow strong, [ab]along with one of his princes [ac]who will gain ascendancy over him and rule; his domain will be a great realm indeed. 6 And after some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will come to the (AZ)king of the North to reach an agreement. But she will not keep her [ad]position of power, nor will he remain with his [ae]power, but she will be given up, along with those who brought her in and the one who fathered her as well as he who supported her in those times. 7 But one of the [af]descendants of her line will arise in his place, and he will come against their army and enter the (BA)fortress of the king of the North, and he will deal with them and prevail. 8 And he will also take into captivity to Egypt their (BB)gods with their cast metal images and their precious vessels of silver and gold, and he on his part will [ag]refrain from attacking the king of the North for some years. 9 Then [ah]the latter will enter the realm of the king of the South, but will return to his own land.

10 “And his sons will mobilize and assemble a multitude of great forces; and one of them will keep on coming and (BC)overflow and pass through, so that he may [ai]again wage war up to his fortress. 11 And the (BD)king of the South will be enraged and go out and fight [aj]with the king of the North. Then the latter will raise a great multitude, but that multitude will be handed over to [ak]the former. 12 When the multitude is carried away, his heart will [al]be haughty, and he will cause tens of thousands to fall; yet he will not prevail. 13 For the king of the North will again raise a greater multitude than the former, and [am]after an (BE)interval of some years he will [an]press on with a great army and much equipment.

14 “Now in those times many will rise up against the king of the South; the violent ones among your people will also raise themselves up to fulfill the vision, but they will [ao]fall down. 15 Then the king of the North will come, pile up an (BF)assault ramp, and capture a well-fortified city; and the forces of the South will not stand their ground, not even [ap]their choicest troops, for there will be no strength to make a stand. 16 But he who comes against him will (BG)do as he pleases, and (BH)no one will be able to withstand him; he will also stay for a time in the [aq](BI)Beautiful Land, with destruction in his hand. 17 And he will (BJ)set his [ar]mind on coming with the power of his entire kingdom, [as]bringing with him [at]a proposal of peace which he will put into effect; he will also give him the daughter of women to ruin it. But she will not take a stand for him or be [au]on his side. 18 Then he will turn his face to the (BK)coastlands and capture many. But a commander will put a stop to his taunting against him; moreover, he will (BL)repay him for his taunting. 19 So he will turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land, but he will (BM)stumble and fall and not be (BN)found.

20 “Then in his place one will arise who will (BO)allow an [av]oppressor to pass through the [aw]Jewel of his kingdom; yet within a few days he will be broken, though not in anger nor in battle. 21 And in his place a despicable person will arise, on whom the majesty of kingship has not been conferred; but he will come in a time of tranquility and (BP)seize the kingdom by intrigue. 22 And the overflowing (BQ)forces will be flooded away from him and smashed, and also the prince of the covenant. 23 After an alliance is made with him he will practice deception, and he will go up and gain power with a small force of people. 24 [ax]In a time of tranquility he will enter the (BR)richest parts of the [ay]realm, and he will accomplish what his fathers did not, nor his [az]ancestors; he will distribute plunder, spoils, and possessions among them, and he will devise his schemes against strongholds, but only for a time. 25 And he will stir up his strength and [ba]courage against the (BS)king of the South with a large army; so the king of the South will mobilize an extremely large and mighty army for war; but he will not stand, because schemes will be devised against him. 26 Those who eat his choice food will [bb]destroy him, and his army will [bc](BT)overflow, but many will fall down slain. 27 As for both kings, their hearts will be intent on (BU)evil, and they will (BV)speak lies to each other at the same table; but it will not succeed, because the (BW)end is still to come at the appointed time. 28 Then he will return to his land with much [bd]plunder; but his heart will be set against the holy covenant, and he will take action and then return to his own land.

29 “At the appointed time he will return and come into the South, but [be]this last time it will not turn out the way it did before. 30 For ships of [bf](BX)Kittim will come against him; therefore he will withdraw in fear and will return and curse the holy covenant and take action; so he will come back and pay attention to those who abandon the holy covenant. 31 Forces from him will arise, (BY)desecrate the sanctuary fortress, and do away with the regular sacrifice. And they will set up the (BZ)abomination [bg]of desolation. 32 And by (CA)smooth words he will [bh]turn to godlessness those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will be (CB)strong and take action. 33 And [bi](CC)those who have insight among the people will give understanding to the many; yet they will (CD)fall by sword and by flame, by captivity and by plunder for many days. 34 Now when they fall they will be granted a little help, and many will (CE)join with them in (CF)hypocrisy. 35 And some of [bj]those who have insight will fall, to (CG)refine, (CH)purge, and [bk](CI)cleanse them until the (CJ)end time; because it is still to come at the appointed time.

36 “Then the king will (CK)do as he pleases, and he will exalt himself and (CL)boast against every god and will (CM)speak [bl]dreadful things against the (CN)God of gods; and he will be successful until the (CO)indignation is finished, because that which is (CP)determined will be done. 37 And he will show no regard for the [bm]gods of his fathers or for the [bn]desire of women, nor will he show regard for any other god; for he will boast against them all. 38 But [bo]instead he will honor a god of fortresses, a god whom his fathers did not know; he will honor him with gold, silver, precious stones, and treasures. 39 And he will take action against the strongest of fortresses with the help of a foreign god; he will give great honor to [bp]those who acknowledge him and will make them rulers over the many, and will parcel out land for a price.

40 “And at the (CQ)end time the (CR)king of the South will wage war with him, and the (CS)king of the North will (CT)storm against him with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he will enter countries, (CU)overflow them, and pass through. 41 He will also enter the [bq](CV)Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall; but these will be rescued out of his hand: Edom, (CW)Moab, and the foremost of the sons of (CX)Ammon. 42 Then he will reach out with his hand against other countries, and the land of Egypt will not escape. 43 But he will [br]gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and (CY)Libyans and (CZ)Ethiopians will follow at his [bs]heels. 44 But rumors from the East and from the North will terrify him, and he will go out with great wrath to eliminate and [bt]annihilate many. 45 And he will pitch the tents of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful (DA)Holy Mountain; yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.

The Time of the End

12 “Now at that time (DB)Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a (DC)time of distress (DD)such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the (DE)book, will be rescued. 2 And (DF)many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, (DG)these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting [bu]contempt. 3 And [bv]those who have (DH)insight will (DI)shine like the glow of the [bw]expanse of heaven, and those who [bx](DJ)lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. 4 But as for you, Daniel, (DK)keep these words secret and (DL)seal up the book until the (DM)end of time; (DN)many will roam about, and knowledge will increase.”

5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and behold, two others were standing, one on this bank of the stream and the other on that bank of the stream. 6 And (DO)someone said to the man (DP)dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, “(DQ)How long will it be until the end of these wonders?” 7 And I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, [by]as he (DR)raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by (DS)Him who lives forever that it would be for a [bz](DT)time, [ca]times, and half a [cb]time; and as soon as [cc]they finish (DU)smashing the [cd]power of the holy people, all these events will be completed. 8 But as for me, I heard but did not understand; so I said, “My lord, what will be the [ce]outcome of these events?” 9 And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for these words will be kept secret and (DV)sealed up until the end time. 10 (DW)Many will be purged, [cf]cleansed, and refined, but the (DX)wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but [cg]those who (DY)have insight will understand. 11 And from the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the (DZ)abomination [ch]of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. 12 (EA)Blessed is the one who is patient and attains to the (EB)1,335 days! 13 But as for you, go your way to the [ci]end; then you will (EC)rest and [cj]rise for your (ED)allotted portion at the end of the [ck]age.”

1 En el año segundo del rey Darío, en el mes sexto, en el primer día del mes, vino palabra de Jehová por medio del profeta Hageo(A) a Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, gobernador de Judá, y a Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, diciendo: 2 Así ha hablado Jehová de los ejércitos, diciendo: Este pueblo dice: No ha llegado aún el tiempo, el tiempo de que la casa de Jehová sea reedificada. 3 Entonces vino palabra de Jehová por medio del profeta Hageo, diciendo: 4 ¿Es para vosotros tiempo, para vosotros, de habitar en vuestras casas artesonadas, y esta casa está desierta? 5 Pues así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Meditad bien sobre vuestros caminos. 6 Sembráis mucho, y recogéis poco; coméis, y no os saciáis; bebéis, y no quedáis satisfechos; os vestís, y no os calentáis; y el que trabaja a jornal recibe su jornal en saco roto.

7 Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Meditad sobre vuestros caminos. 8 Subid al monte, y traed madera, y reedificad la casa; y pondré en ella mi voluntad, y seré glorificado, ha dicho Jehová. 9 Buscáis mucho, y halláis poco; y encerráis en casa, y yo lo disiparé en un soplo. ¿Por qué? dice Jehová de los ejércitos. Por cuanto mi casa está desierta, y cada uno de vosotros corre a su propia casa. 10 Por eso se detuvo de los cielos sobre vosotros la lluvia, y la tierra detuvo sus frutos. 11 Y llamé la sequía sobre esta tierra, y sobre los montes, sobre el trigo, sobre el vino, sobre el aceite, sobre todo lo que la tierra produce, sobre los hombres y sobre las bestias, y sobre todo trabajo de manos.

12 Y oyó Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, y Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, y todo el resto del pueblo, la voz de Jehová su Dios, y las palabras del profeta Hageo, como le había enviado Jehová su Dios; y temió el pueblo delante de Jehová. 13 Entonces Hageo, enviado de Jehová, habló por mandato de Jehová al pueblo, diciendo: Yo estoy con vosotros, dice Jehová. 14 Y despertó Jehová el espíritu de Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, gobernador de Judá, y el espíritu de Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, y el espíritu de todo el resto del pueblo; y vinieron y trabajaron en la casa de Jehová de los ejércitos, su Dios, 15 en el día veinticuatro del mes sexto, en el segundo año del rey Darío.

Haggai Begins Temple Building

1 In the (A)second year of Darius the king, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came by the prophet (B)Haggai to (C)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, (D)governor of Judah, and to (E)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, 2 “This is what the Lord of armies [a]says: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time for the house of the Lord to be rebuilt.”’” 3 Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4 “Is it time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses while this house remains (F)desolate?” 5 Now then, the Lord of armies says this: “[b]Consider your ways! 6 You have (G)sown much, only to [c]harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but there is not enough for [d]anyone to get warm; and the one who earns, earns wages to put into a money bag full of holes.”

7 The Lord of armies says this: “[e]Consider your ways! 8 Go up to the [f]mountains, bring wood, and (H)rebuild the [g]temple, that I may be (I)pleased with it and be (J)honored,” says the Lord. 9 “(K)You [h]start an ambitious project, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I (L)blow it away. Why?” declares the Lord of armies. “It is because of My house which (M)remains desolate, while each of you runs to his own house. 10 Therefore, because of you the (N)sky has withheld [i]its dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. 11 And I called for a (O)drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on what the ground produces, on (P)mankind, on cattle, and on (Q)all the products of the labor of [j]your hands.”

12 Then (R)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and (S)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, (T)obeyed the voice of the Lord their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, just as the Lord their God had sent him. And the people [k](U)showed reverence for the Lord. 13 Then Haggai, the (V)messenger of the Lord, spoke [l]by the commission of the Lord to the people, saying, “‘(W)I am with you,’ declares the Lord.” 14 So the Lord stirred up the spirit of (X)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, (Y)governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the (Z)remnant of the people; and they came and (AA)worked on the house of the Lord of armies, their God, 15 on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month in the second year of Darius the king.
