To thee, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us confusion of face, as at this day, to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, those that are near and those that are far away, in all the lands to which thou hast driven them, because of the treachery which they have committed against thee. “Lord, you are righteous,(D) but this day we are covered with shame(E)—the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered(F) us because of our unfaithfulness(G) to you.(H) We and our kings, our princes and our ancestors are covered with shame, Lord, because we have sinned against you.(I)
