6 Among these were of the children of Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
7 The chief of the eunuchs gave them names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar [the king’s attendant], Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.
8 But Daniel determined in his heart that he would not defile himself by [eating his portion of] the king’s rich and dainty food or by [drinking] the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might [be allowed] not to defile himself.(A)

New International Version
6 Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel,(A) Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.(B) 7 The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar;(C) to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.(D)
8 But Daniel resolved not to defile(E) himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.
