Law of Divorce

24 “When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens, if she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some ^(A)indecency in her, that ^(B)he writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and ^[a]sends her away from his house, ² and she leaves his house and goes and becomes another man’s wife, ³ and the latter husband ^[b]turns against her, writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand, and ^[c]sends her away from his house, or if the latter husband who took her to be his wife dies, ⁴ then her ^(C)former husband who ^[d]sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, after ^[e]she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the Lord, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.

⁵ “^(D)When a man takes a new wife, he is not to go out with the army, nor be assigned any duty; he shall be free at home for one year and shall ^(E)make his wife whom he has taken happy.

⁶ “No one shall seize a handmill or an upper millstone as a pledge for a loan, since he would be seizing the debtor’s ^[f]means of life as a pledge.

⁷ “^(F)If someone is ^[g]caught kidnapping any of his countrymen of the sons of Israel, and he treats him as merchandise and sells him, then that thief shall die; so you shall eliminate the evil from among you.

⁸ “^(G)Be careful about an infestation of leprosy, that you are very attentive and act in accordance with everything that the Levitical priests teach you; just as I have commanded them, you shall be careful to act. ⁹ Remember what the Lord your God did ^(H)to Miriam on the way as you came out of Egypt.

¹⁰ “^(I)When you make your neighbor a loan of any kind, you shall not enter his house to take his pledge. ¹¹ You shall stand outside, and the person to whom you are making the loan shall bring the pledge outside to you. ¹² And if he is a poor man, you shall not sleep with his pledge. ^13 (J)When the sun goes down you shall certainly return the pledge to him, so that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and ^(K)it will be righteousness for you before the Lord your God.

¹⁴ “^(L)You shall not exploit a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your countrymen or one of your strangers who are in your land in your ^[h]towns. ^15 (M)You shall give him his wages on his day ^[i]before the sun sets—for he is poor and sets his ^[j]heart on it—so that ^(N)he does not cry out against you to the Lord, and it becomes a sin in you.

¹⁶ “^(O)Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin alone.

¹⁷ “^(P)You shall not pervert the justice ^[k]due a stranger or ^[l]an orphan, nor ^(Q)seize a widow’s garment as a ^[m]pledge. ¹⁸ But you are to remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and that the Lord your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.

¹⁹ “^(R)When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you are not to go back to get it; it shall belong ^(S)to the stranger, the ^[n]orphan, and to the widow, in order that the Lord your God ^(T)may bless you in all the work of your hands. ^20 (U)When you beat the olives off your olive tree, you are not to search through the branches ^[o]again; that shall be left ^(V)for the stranger, the ^[p]orphan, and for the widow.

²¹ “When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you are not to ^[q]go over it again; that shall be left for the stranger, the ^[r]orphan, and the widow. ²² And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.

¹⁴ The ^[g](AT)exile will soon be set free, and will not die in the ^[h]dungeon, ^(AU)nor will his bread be lacking. ¹⁵ For I am the Lord your God, who ^(AV)stirs up the sea so that its waves roar (the Lord of armies is His name). ¹⁶ And I have ^(AW)put My words in your mouth and have ^(AX)covered you with the shadow of My hand, to ^[i](AY)establish the heavens, to found the earth, and to say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’”

The New Heaven and Earth

21 Then I saw ^(A)a new heaven and a new earth; for ^(B)the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. ² And I saw ^(C)the holy city, ^(D)new Jerusalem, ^(E)coming down out of heaven from God, ^(F)prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. ³ And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, ^(G)the tabernacle of God is among the people, and He will ^(H)dwell among them, and they shall be His ^[a]people, and God Himself will be among them^[b], ⁴ and He will ^(I)wipe away every tear from their eyes; and ^(J)there will no longer be any death; ^(K)there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; ^(L)the first things have passed away.”

⁵ And ^(M)He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am ^(N)making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for ^(O)these words are faithful and true.” ⁶ Then He said to me, “^[c](P)It is done. I am the ^(Q)Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. ^(R)I will give water to the one who thirsts from the spring of the ^(S)water of life, without cost. ^7 (T)The one who overcomes will inherit these things, and ^(U)I will be his God and he will be My son. ^8 (V)But for the cowardly, and ^[d]unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part will be in ^(W)the lake that burns with fire and ^[e]brimstone, which is the ^(X)second death.”

^9 (Y)Then one of the seven angels who had the ^(Z)seven bowls, ^[f]full of the ^(AA)seven last plagues, came and spoke with me, saying, “^(AB)Come here, I will show you the ^(AC)bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

The New Jerusalem

¹⁰ And ^(AD)he carried me away ^[g](AE)in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me ^(AF)the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, ¹¹ having ^(AG)the glory of God. Her ^[h]brilliance was like a very valuable stone, like a ^(AH)stone of ^(AI)crystal-clear jasper. ^12 [i]It had a great and high wall, ^[j](AJ)with twelve ^(AK)gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on the gates, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. ¹³ There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. ¹⁴ And the wall of the city had ^(AL)twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the ^(AM)twelve apostles of the Lamb.

¹⁵ The one who spoke with me had a ^[k]gold measuring ^(AN)rod to measure the city, its ^(AO)gates, and its wall. ¹⁶ The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the ^[l]rod, ^[m]twelve thousand stadia; its length, width, and height are equal. ¹⁷ And he measured its wall, ^[n]144 cubits, by ^(AP)human ^[o]measurements, which are also ^(AQ)angelic measurements. ¹⁸ The material of the wall was ^(AR)jasper; and the city was ^(AS)pure gold, like ^[p]clear ^(AT)glass. ^19 (AU)The foundation stones of the city wall were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was ^(AV)jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, ^(AW)emerald; ²⁰ the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, ^(AX)sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. ²¹ And the twelve ^(AY)gates were twelve ^(AZ)pearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was ^(BA)pure gold, like transparent ^(BB)glass.

²² I saw ^(BC)no ^[q]temple in it, for the ^(BD)Lord God the Almighty and the ^(BE)Lamb are its ^[r]temple. ²³ And the city ^(BF)has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for ^(BG)the glory of God has illuminated it, and its lamp is the ^(BH)Lamb. ^24 (BI)The nations will walk by its light, and the ^(BJ)kings of the earth ^[s]will bring their glory into it. ²⁵ In the daytime (for ^(BK)there will be no night there) ^(BL)its gates ^(BM)will never be closed; ²⁶ and ^(BN)they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; ²⁷ and ^(BO)nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those ^[t]whose names are ^(BP)written in the Lamb’s book of life.
