⁹ For this reason we also, ^(A)since the day we heard about it, ^(B)have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the ^[a](C)knowledge of His will in all spiritual ^(D)wisdom and understanding, ¹⁰ so that you will ^(E)walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, ^[b](F)to please Him in all respects, ^(G)bearing fruit in every good work and ^[c]increasing in the ^[d]knowledge of God; ^11 (H)strengthened with all power, according to ^[e]His glorious might, ^[f]for the attaining of all perseverance and ^[g]patience; ^(I)joyously ¹² giving thanks to ^(J)the Father, who has qualified us ^[h]to share in ^(K)the inheritance of the ^[i]saints in ^(L)light.

¹³ Is anyone among you ^(A)suffering? ^(B)Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to ^(C)sing praises. ¹⁴ Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for ^(D)the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, ^[a](E)anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; ¹⁵ and the ^(F)prayer of faith will ^[b](G)restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will ^(H)raise him up, and if he has committed sins, ^[c]they will be forgiven him.

A Call to Prayer

2 First of all, then, I urge that ^(A)requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people, ^2 (B)for kings and all who are in ^[a]authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and ^[b]dignity. ³ This is good and acceptable in the sight of ^(C)God our Savior, ^4 (D)who wants all people to be ^(E)saved and to ^(F)come to the ^[c]knowledge of the truth.
